Roxane's POV
I did not know when, but after endlessly yelling threats down the empty hallway, I must've had fallen asleep, because I woke up, sitting up against the cemented wall. My back was sore because of the ruthless wall, and my head hurt because of the ruthless pack.
This is why packs are bad. They're always so arrogant, so selfish and narrow-minded. They think they own the world when in reality, they haven't even lived.
I concluded for myself. I knew I was being harsher than needed, but being locked up in a dark cell does that to you.
I couldn't hear my friends anymore, and I hoped they were just asleep. I tried to keep my mind away from the thought of them being taken somewhere else. I knew what packs did to rogues, and it wasn't pretty.
I rushed to the bars when I heard footsteps getting louder and louder. My fingers tightened around the cold iron, preparing myself to give them a piece of my mind.
All angry thoughts vanished though when a calming scent met my nostrils. My shoulders dropped from their tensed position as my body heated up. My wolf could not be silenced, it yipped in excitement and begged to be let out. In the back of my mind, it was clear what was happening, but I didn't want to acknowledge it.
I was stunned as the person walked closer. Inside, I was deeply hoping that they would stop at my cell. My heart hammered in my ears and anxiety started filling my stomach. The footsteps only got louder and louder and I backed away from the bars. Though the delicious scent was calming, my fingers shook as they fisted the hem of my shirt and my heartbeat only went faster, pounding against my ribcage.
The footsteps stopped and the fragrance filled the whole room. My back was pressed against the wall opposite from the bars, my eyes focused on the floor. My ears picked up the sound of shoes slightly shifting and my body froze. I kept my gaze on the ground, not daring to look up. I didn't want to know who was standing outside the cell.
"I assume you are the leader." A deep, yet so soft voice reached my ears. It should've had calmed me further, but it only reminded what this meant. He didn't seem to know, though. I thought it was pretty obvious. His scent, his sound, even having him close had an impact on me. My heart never seemed to slow down and my upper body felt warm as if I had just downed a cup of hot tea.
I slowly nodded, my eyes not moving from the ground. If he saw my eyes, he would know.
"Look at me, rogue." I felt my heart clench as he growled the last word. Anger ran through my human side, while my wolf was barely listening to what he was saying, too caught up in enjoying the sound of his voice. But the anger got the best of me and I gritted my teeth, before snapping my head up, my eyes instantly connecting with his. A loud growl rumbled through his throat.
"Mate." His voice was suddenly deeper than before, more animalistic. All I saw was his eyes, though. Deep chocolate brown eyes stared back at me, looking straight into my soul. I pulled my gaze away from his, taking in the amazing sight before me. His shoulders broad, figure tall and his dress shirt clung perfectly around his chest. Power rolled off of him in waves, but despite that, I had never felt safer.
I watched as his gaze raced over my body, my wolf purred in pride when approval filled his eyes. I didn't move as his hands gripped two of the bars. I watched in surprise as his tattooed biceps clenched and the bars bent under his hands, creating a gap. His eyes were locked on me as if he barely had to move a muscle. Totally effortless, he pulled the bars away from one another, until he seemed to get impatient. I gasped as he jerked his arms back, ripping the poles off the ground.
Before I knew it, he was right in front of me. Only a moment before, he had pulled two iron poles off the ground, but his strong arms were surprisingly gentle when they circled around my waist. Warmth filled my body and it felt like my heart was going to burst. Having him this close was making my mind foggy. Everything but him was a blur. The room was quiet, all I could hear was my thumping heartbeat. Our eyes wandered over each other, taking in every little detail.
I had always thought of myself as a tall, athletic built person, but compared to him, I was like a tiny mouse. He was one head taller than me and almost twice as broad as me. That didn't scare me one bit though. I felt so safe. I was always the protector, the one to assure and comfort the others.
My eyes ran over his face yet again, studying each and every feature of his. He was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. His face was sculpted to perfection with a jaw as sharp as a butcher's knife. Stubbles were covering his chin and jaw, giving him an even more edgy look. Everything about him screamed power, authority, and intimidation. But that only added to my attraction to him.
His eyes flickered from mine to my lips, but he pulled back, licking his plump lips in the process. Never had I seen someone so irresistible.
"Come." He took a step away from me and turned around, leaving me with a dropped jaw. I watched as he walked out of the cell, through the gap he had created.
My wolf whined in rejection and my heart stopped beating for a moment. I felt somewhat tricked by the way he had just left. I didn't know whether to feel angry or hurt, so the two emotions swirled together inside of me and resulted in frustration.
It didn't take long for my mind to react, though, and I scrambled out of the cell. My eyes spotted his figure turning around the corner and I rushed after him.
I paled when I saw Sienna, sitting in the corner of her cell. By her slow breathing and obliviousness to the huge man who just broke his way into a cell, I assumed she was sleeping. I didn't know whether to wake her up or to run to my mate and demand him to let her out. And Ellie and Aya, of course.
I ended up sprinting after the huge man, my footsteps echoing through the empty hallways.
"Hey, you!" I gripped the fabric of the back of his shirt, but quickly released it. I immediately regretted my action; He didn't come off as the type to allow being grabbed or even touched without approval. His entire being demanded respect.
"Yes?" He turned around and looked straight into my eyes, and my mind stopped working for a second, lost in his deep chocolate brown eyes.
"I want my friends out too." I tried my hardest to make my voice firm and clear but failed as my voice still was raspy from all the angry yelling and screaming. It didn't help that it was my mate I was talking to, a man twice my size with piercing eyes.
"We will talk about that later. Come, I don't want you to be here any longer." His voice was clear of emotion and a stinging pain could be felt in my heart. The pain of rejection. I lifted my foot to walk after him but quickly dropped it. I was not going to back down. Just because I had met my mate, didn't mean I would neglect my friends. Though my wolf needed some convincing, I prioritized my friends higher than this man, who was technically a complete stranger.
"I'm not going to leave this place till my friends are with me."
"Don't anger me, little mate." He growled as he walked towards the door.
"I don't care if I anger you. My friends and I are all innocent, and just because I met you doesn't mean I'll leave them down here, getting punished for something they didn't do!" I ended up shouting, causing a few prisoners to growl from behind the bars.
"Come with me, and we'll talk about it." I watched as he turned around and strode towards me. Grabbing my arm, he pulled me closer to him, my chest almost touching his.
"Are you gonna walk or do I have to carry you?" His voice got even lower and I had to suppress a whimper. He sounded so... alluring.
"I'll walk."
With one last glance behind me, I followed him out of the door.
