Roxane's POV
"As Roxane is my mate, she will stay here. I'm still not sure about the others, though." As soon as he said the word 'mate', I could feel three different gazes on the side of my face. I kept my wide eyes locked on Caden, though.
His gaze intensely met mine, making me unable to look anywhere else. I repeated his words in my mind and ripped my eyes away from his when I realized what he said.
"If you don't let my friends stay, I'm going, too." I stared into his eyes again. This time my gaze challenged him, though, and he knew it, too. Caden raised both eyebrows, and a small smile appeared on his lips. His serious expression quickly returned, though, and he bent his upper body slightly over the wooden desk.
"I'll decide that." My three friends stayed quiet. I turned my head to glance at them. They all sat with different gazes. Ellie's gaze was heated, furry rolled off of her, but she stayed silent. Aya and Sienna's were almost identical. Fear, confusion and a small hint of anger. I didn't know if the fear was for me or themselves. No one in this group wanted to get separated. Becoming a smaller group would only increase the danger we were in every day.
I stood up, placed my hands on the wooden desk and looked the Alpha straight in the eyes.
"You can't separate us. I'm not letting you throw out my friends while I stay. It's either all of us, or none of us." I firmly told him, proud of myself for standing up against him. It almost went against my nature to confront an Alpha, but I guess, the Beta blood in me made it easier. My legs were at the edge of shaking, but I hid it with all of my might.
"Why should I? What's in it for me?" He looked up at me. Caden would've seemed annoyed with me if it weren't for the small ounce of hilarity in his eyes. The fact that he found this amusing only added to my fury.
"That, as your mate, I'll only stay here if my friends stay, too." I pushed the words out of my gritted teeth. "We clear?"
"I'll think about it. They can live in some guest rooms while I'll consider it." He nodded at the men next to him, who abruptly stood up. They pulled my friends up by their arms, ignoring my yells and pleas to let them go. Quickly, they were dragged out of the room, leaving me alone with my mate.
"Where are they taking them?" I hissed at him, who simply watched me as I threw my hands in the air.
"To the guest rooms, of course."
"There was no need to pull them out like that. We're not criminals!" I exclaimed. I balled my fists and sent him a glare. He didn't seem bothered, as he stood up and walked around the desk. The closer he got to me, the more my anger vanished. I hated the effect he had on me. I was almost unable to be mad at him. Maybe it was his flawless looks, maybe it was his alluring personality, I didn't know. All I knew was that it seemed ridiculous to be mad at the man of my dreams.
"I know you aren't." His voice was softer now, close to a whisper. My eyes went to his in confusion about the change in his attitude. The deep chocolate color seemed lighter now, not like before when I was nearly yelling at him.
"Then why can't you just let them stay here?" My tone matched his this time. I told myself it was because he was getting closer and closer, but I couldn't ignore the thumping of my heart as he got closer. I couldn't ignore the color of his plump lips or the tensing muscles underneath his shirt.
Snap out of it, Roxane.
"It's against pack rules. I need to look further into this," he took another step closer. "I can't let down this pack down. If something happens-"
