As Riley walked out of the cafeteria with Maya, she notices everybody whispering.
'That new boy is cute!'
'Did Maya Hart just eat lunch with the new kid? Woah.'
Riley felt kind of sad. Everybody always notices Maya. It's like she's the popular one. She isn't considered cool like Maya. She's just, Riley Matthews. Your ordinary goody two shoes.
She sighed. What could she possibly do for others to notice her? Then she looked around. She remembered that Lucas was the new talk of the school. Everybody adores him. Maybe if she talked to Lucas some more, maybe she'd get noticed?
"Maya?"
"Yeah, Riles?" Maya asked.
"How d-" Riley paused. Should she? No she can't. "Never mind. It's nothing."
"You sure?" Maya asked, concerned.
"Yeah, it's really nothing don't worry." She was going to ask Maya how to be like her. SHe wanted to be like Maya. She wanted to be dangerous, fierce, and liked. She didn't want to be good 'ole Riley anymore.
"Hey Maya!" Lucas greeted as he approached Maya and Riley.
"Hey Lucas!" Maya and Riley said together, but Riley with more enthusiasm.
"Oh hey Riley. Didn't see you there." Ouch. It's fine. Nobody ever does anyway.
"We were just about to head to class. Wanna walk with us?" Riley offered, ignoring what Lucas said.
"Yeah sure."
As they were walking she saw people staring. Yes! It's working!
She loved the attention she was getting.
Be Bold, Be Brave. That was something Maya always said. She never thought twice. So, before she could even stop herself, the words came out.
"Lucas? Would you like to come to our house tomorrow for game night? It's a family tradition but I'd like to invite some of my friends." Riley was nervous, but at least she's making progress, right?
"Oh." Lucas paused. He didn't know what to say. "Uh, sure I guess. Will you be going?" He asked Maya.
Maya turned to Lucas. "Wait what? Me?"
"Yeah." He replied.
Riley butted in. "Yeah, she's going! And you know who else?" She fake gasped. "Uncle Josh!"
Lucas' eyebrows furrowed. "Who's uncle Josh?"
"Oh, you know, my uncle who Maya has had a crush on for years! It's actually really cute!" Riley gushed.
Lucas looked at Maya. She was silently curing Riley in her head for telling Lucas. Then, he turned to Riley.
"I'd love to go."
