My mind was still busy planning for the upcoming mission as I walked behind Father and Anxa- who was currently gloating to Father about how 'delicious' the ice cream was.

Sure she would. I mean, how else would you describe 'dark chocolate?' ;)

My thoughts were broken as I heard Anxa squeal and run into the awaiting arms of a man I recognized as the Kazekage- Gaara.

I smiled as I noticed them. It relieved most of my troubles when I realize how happy Gaara makes her- after all her happiness was my biggest priority. 

"Hello, Kakashi, Kara. I was in the village and I thought I would pay a visit to Anxa, if that's alright?" It was adorable to find that even if he is the Kazekage now, he still felt the need to be courteous. 

"No problem at all, Kazekage- sama. I was heading over to Neji's anyways." I smiled bigger as I saw Gaara's eye brow twitch when I bowed to him. He did not like to be treated with special care when he was around his friends. 

"Goodbye Gaara. Good night Anxi, Father."

With that, I performed the jutsu and disappeared out of their sights. 

I was able to heave a sigh of relief when I was out of the sight of my family. Finally, a moment to myself.  No more looks of admiration from my little sister or looks of anticipation from my father.  All the worries left me like a physical thing as I got closer to the Hyuuga compound.

The fresh breeze caressing my skin as I jumped from tree to tree while taking a shortcut through the forest and the relaxing atmosphere of the forest did nothing to brush away one of the biggest worries on my mind.

To decide whether taking Anxa with me was such a good idea or no. Although not having her accompany me in this mission would mean that this opportunity of my first serious S-rank mission would slip through my fingers like sand… which was another thing in itself but her protection came first, whatsoever. Not that I did not believe in her capabilities as a ninja but it was the Ryuubi inside her that could pose a problem in any uptight situation. Upon having seen with my own eyes as to how Naruto could lose control of the nine-tailed beast so easily…

You could say that had me vexed, alright.   This very thought was cut off as I found myself coming to a halt right in front of Neji’s door. Brushing my knuckles on the wood, my heart started to pound as my mind tried to invent any excuse which would explain my unannounced arrival at his place. I mean he only got back from a mission this morning…   My train of thought was cut short however when a certain, dark-haired male with lavender eyes opened the door, only to greet me with a smirk.   I quickly pulled off my mask that covered my whole face except my eyes and greeted him.   “Hello Neji.”   He did not answer, just moved aside with the smirk still plastered on his handsome features to let me in. This was his usual greeting for me at least. Once inside the safe confines of his home, I found myself trapped in his arms. The sudden warmth radiating from his being soothed my very core as I sighed, allowing all my worries to whisk away with the breath I just exhaled.

You might be curious as to how I knew this certain individual. He and I knew each other since we were five. We were the best of friends. Hardly separable. And as we grew up, the friendship turned into something much more. Although ‘love’ was not the term that I would use here, but hey, we were getting there.

“This is a surprise.” Neji gave me something that was closer to a smile after we separated from the embrace.

I did not answer just stared at him. His soft lavender eyes were gazing into mine with such intensity that made my heart pound faster than possible. My hand automatically reached out touch his face and my slender fingers traced the few cuts and bruises that marred his perfectly pale skin.
