Kara’s P.O.V:

The first thing that my mind registered to as I came to with a gasp was the fact that I was still breathing. Yup. I exhaled in and out just to assure myself of the fact without opening my eyes. But then other senses kicked in and I could observe other details in the room… for instance another someone breathing in the very same room less than five feet away.

Upon remembering other details before I had passed out caused me to stiffen at the realization that whoever it was with me in this room was not an ally.

My eyes snapped open when whispers of the wind carried the words spoken by the stranger to my ears.

“Relax, you’re safe.”

My heart thumping in my chest, I quickly sat up and glared at the person known as Itachi Uchiha gazing at me with a blank face as usual.

I glared daggers at him as I mentally examined myself by flexing my muscles and was relieved to find out that my face was still masked and the fact that these sick murderers had not amputated an arm or a leg.

Not that I would not put it past them to try.

But as my senses came back and started working in full gear I grew aware of the hatred and the revulsion I felt as I tried to stare him down.

“If you are done inspecting yourself, better follow me, the Leader wants a word with you.” His cold voice was as emotionless as ever and the indifference on his face with his blank stare caused me to frown as he stood up from his current seated position and walked towards the door.

I bit back whatever inappropriate comment I had for him before standing up on wobbly legs from the bed and following him out into the chilly corridor. I shivered as I followed my captor (in a way) and could not help but sneer in disgust as my eyes roamed the place where I would be staying for God knows how long. The place was spacious enough but the fact that it had not been cleaned or the cobwebs have not been removed did not make it all the more attractive. I was already counting the days it would take for me to complete this mission and get the hell out of here.

Itachi halted abruptly in front of a wooden door which had strange designs carved into the wood. I took a deep breath and tried to calm my already stuttering heart. Behind this door was seated most probably the most powerful ninja if Itachi Uchiha had accepted him as his Leader. And through our brief encounter I knew the fact that he was perhaps the only person to possess Rinnegan- a legendary ocular power in front of which not even the Sharingan could stand its ground. And that was definitely saying something.

Itachi might have heard my stuttering heartbeat and my hyperventilating… because before he knocked the door to ask for permission to enter… he whispered in a somewhat gentle tone:

“Don’t speak unless you are spoken to directly and he won’t kill you.”

Yeah sure, that soothed by thumping heart. Thanks for the advice Uchiha.

“Enter.”

The cool voice came through the door as Itachi knocked. He stepped aside to let me enter first and then closed the door behind him as he came to stand behind me.

“Ah. So you’re finally awake.”

His face was shielded by darkness so I could only see the piercing swirling patterns of the Rinnegan as he focused his entire attention on me.

“As you might have realized by now that you are now a member of the Akatsuki. So that ridiculous ANBU uniform is not essential for you to wear anymore. Konan will show you around the building once you are dressed appropriately. You are paired with Deidara and Tobi for missions, otherwise you will remain under Itachi’s care.”

That last sentence caused me to stiffen as my eyes narrowed at him.

He paired me with that blonde jerk who was a selfish, perverted, conceited little bastard AND he assigned me a baby sitter?!

The nerve of this guy!

“I want to work alone nor do I need a babysitter.” I all but hissed at him.

His eyes narrowed and flashed dangerously as I had dared to object to his instructions.

“You are not in a position to demand here, Kara. I never wanted you alive in the first place but Itachi here convinced me otherwise. So unless you want me to change my decision, I suggest you to leave, now.”

Itachi stiffened at the threat in his voice as he grabbed my arm roughly and pulled me out of the room but nor before bowing his head a little in respect to his LEADER.

What a kiss ass!

I growled as my anger ruled me for once and yanked my arm away out of his hold.

“Don’t you dare touch me again, traitor.” I growled at him while smirking at his shocked expression.

I turned on my heel and stomped back the way we took to come here and soon myself seated on the same bed in which I had rested for a while.

Okay, this was not going good. It has not even been a day here and I cant bear the bossy attitude of the Leader here. Nor can I stand Itachi’s presence any longer. Revulsion and hatred started to course through me once again as his past actions flashed through my brain. I tightened my hands into fists and stopped them from trembling in anger as I breathed in and out trying to calm myself.

But the fact that I was assigned to an idiot’s team and I had my target babysitting me did little good.

What the hell was wrong with me?

I NEVER acted so… impulsively before… especially in delicate situations such as these!

*Calm yourself, Kara. Fighting them will do you little good, especially in this scenario.*

I chided myself as I closed my eyes in concentration.

After a few minutes, I felt my anger subside and calm nothingness take its place inside me.

A knock on the door pulled me out of my thoughts and as I looked up, I saw a blue haired girl with strange orange eyes come inside the room holding what looked like a bundle of clothing as she shut the door behind her.

I almost groaned as I saw the Akatsuki uniform in her hands was for me.

This was going to be a long mission indeed.
