Once in the truck, Di was asleep and Mick was watching a movie with his headphones in. My phone started ringing, so I fumbled with my pocket and pulled it out. My phone didn't recognise the caller ID, so instead of ignoring it, I gently pushed Di off my shoulder and pressed 'answer'.
"Hello?" There was muddling at the other end and a sniffle.
"R-Robyn? Is that you?" There was more sniffling.
"Annie? What's wrong?" I inquired, realising that it was a member of the Bratayley clan.
"I-I..." There was a pause.
".....Annie?"
"I - I don't know how to put this." She sighed. "Robyn. Caleb's gone."
"What?" I asked, not believing what I'd just heard.
"He's died. Caleb's died, Robyn." All of a sudden I burst into tears.
"No. No. How?" I said, sniffling.
"We don't know yet." choked out Annie. I sighed loudly.
"I'm so sorry Annie."
"It's okay. Well - it's not okay - nothing will be okay in my life again, but I appreciate it. That's what I guess I'm trying to say." By now we were both sobbing. "Well, I have to go now."
"I love you Annie. Stay strong." She sighed and hung up.By now Di had woken up and Mick had his arm around me.
"What's wrong?" Asked Mick. I wiped my eyes.
"Caleb's died." They all gasped.
"That's horrible." Brittany said from the front seat. I nodded.
"Well, we have to be strong. Strong for Caleb." They nodded and then the car was silent.****************************
Rest in Peace, my baked potato.
