The next morning I was the first to wake up. Not because I'd chose to, because my head was filled with thoughts and I couldn't stay asleep.I sat and looked at Carson for a while. This summer was going to be incredibly important to me. Carson was going to be there a lot of the time. I wanted to make this happen. But I had no clue how.
So I forced myself to get up and quietly get my shower and put my clothes on. I then went down stairs and started the coffee maker. I knew how Carson took his so I started making it.
I decided it was best for me to get my mind off of everything by having a girl day with Katie. Although there was 50/50 chance of me stealing her away from Jack today. My first sign was that she was normally up early on summer days and yet it was nearly 10:00 and there wasn't a sign of her.
I went ahead and made so pop tarts to eat and only when I had finished them and played on my phone for a while was it that Katie stumbled into the kitchen. Her eyes had deep bags beneath them. She must have been exhausted from yesterday. And the poor thing most likely cried a lot.
I stood and walked over to her and hugged her small body. She was barely trembling as I did so. I couldn't tell if she was cold or if it was because of yesterday. She was wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants with her hair down so I decided it was the second and held her in my arms for a few seconds longer.
"Let's have a girl day." I smiled. She nodded ever so gently and sat at the table. " Where do you wanna go?" I tried to get her to speak.
"No where. Jack and Carson are going somewhere today. I don't want to go out. I'd rather stay here." She mumbled.
"Alright, how about I invite Maddie over?" I suggest. She nods in a somewhat happier mood, the mention of friends perking her up. "Okay. I'll call her after you eat." I tried to compromise with her.
Her silence was killer as I made her some eggs and bacon. I placed the finished products on a plate and handed it to her.
Then I got on the phone and called Maddie. She answered on the second ring.
"Hey, do you wanna come over?" I could've begged her to come just to try and get Katie to laugh. But of course she was horrified last night and now I had to deal with her fear. I had to let her know that everything was okay.
"Yeah, sure. Let me get dressed, I'll be there in 40 minutes." We said goodbye and hung up. I sat down with Katie and Carson walked in, already dressed.
"Is Jack awake? We gotta get going." He was twirling the keys around his index finger.
"Uh, I don't know, sorry." I had to make my brain think straight because right now all I wanted to do was stare at him. I shook my head slightly. Today is my girl day with my friends. I don't need to stare at Carson.
"Alright, thanks anyways." Carson began to leave.
"He's awake. He had to make a phone call." Katie weakly said. Carson was still walking away so I spoke loud enough that he could hear me.
"Carson, he's awake. Katie said he had to make a phone call." I acknowledged him. He nodded and went around the corner, off to to find Jack.
It wasn't that much later when Carson and Jack had told us goodbye and left.
Then a few minutes later, Maddie arrived. She barged in the door and stormed into the kitchen. "Never fear, moody is here to save the day!" She waltzed around the room and grabbed cookies to eat. "So, what are we doing today?" She sat down and gave me a look of 'tell me all the gossip'.
