She sat in the garden
Her hands in the dirt
When someone asked why
She said she was thinking.
See, her smile was gone
Her eyes dark and cold
She longed for death
And this was as close as she'd get
Her family said they needed her
And her friends can't live without her
Her lover wanted her the most.
But they didn't know her
As much as she knew them
They didn't know why her hands
Were in the soft brown dirt.
"This is as close as I'll get."
Because she's on the edge
Her life slowly fading
She'd rather be dead
Than as alone as she is.
Her hands weren't six feet down
But it still meant the same
As long as her hands were in the dirt
She'd be okay.
"This is as close as I'll get to being happy,
While making everyone else happy."
