"What is your name, Soldier!?"

I saluted the general standing before me, "Cadet (F/N) (L/N), sir!"

"Where do you come from, Cadet (L/N)?!"

"The Shinganshina District of Wall Maria, Sir!"

Something flickered in his eyes then. A mixed feeling of pity and understanding, "At ease."

He strode away to torment another poor soul and I sighed in relief.

I made a silent pledge the day I agreed to join the corp. I would train harder and work harder than any other recruit that they had seen before. I wanted the best -so I needed to be one of the best...

Over the course of the next 3 years I was ranked overall first in my unit and didn't even think about settling for anything less. I would hold to the standards my parents set. Of course this was no simple task but I was determined, even if I had to step on people to get to the top.

One day, when I was training with my fellow soldiers, three men approached the training grounds. Two of the men were relatively tall, or maybe it was just because they were standing next to a man on the shorter end of the spectrum. The shorter man had short rich black hair and the other two had short crisp blonde hair. They looked to be in the higher ranks.

Everyone stopped what they were doing and saluted the upper ranking officers.

I saw that one of the taller men was one of my commanding officers. His name was Commander Akatsuka. He was a relatively nice gentleman -when he wasn't screaming in your face half the time. He raised his hand in a dismissive motion and said, "Please pay us no attention, we are simply observing."

I was the first to break my straightened stance and salute to carry on with my trainingfpr the day. I did as my commanding officer told me to and nothing more.

The three 'musketeer's' simply walked around the circular dirt perimeter of the training stations, like cats circling it's prey.

After a few hours, the dinner bell rang and everyone was dismissed to go eat.

'I wonder what that was about...' I thought, but you couldn't be bothered because as if on cue, my stomach began to groan.

Once everyone was all fed up, including you, people started to leave the hall to go back to there assigned cabins for 'lights out'.

But once you too stepped out of the hall, a tall slim figure appeared in front of you. He had dark brown hair and a disproportionate face. It was Marvin. He was more or less considered the 'nerd' of the class. He was also my runner up, and wasn't all too impressed by it either. He's been trying to knock me out of first place since the day I arrived at this unit.

"Commander Akatsuka wants to see you in his office" he said flatly, inspecting his finger nails.

I nodded, "Did he mention why?"

Marvin just rolled his eyes and said, "How am I supposed to know? He wants to see you, not me."

"Oh, I see. So you're jealous..." I snickerrd back at him.

"Ha! As if, (L/N)." he spat out my last name as if it were poison and proceeded to dramatically turn on his heel and stomp away childishly.

You roll your eyes and made a face at the back of his head. You too turn on your heel and start jogging towards Commander Akatsuka's office.

Once you arrive, you stop outside the door to make sure that you don't have any food on your face or on your uniform, also fixing your (H/C/L) hair into a fresh ponytail and then forcefully knocked on the wooden door.

"Name and Business?" a voice shouted from within the room.

"Soldier (Y/N), sir." you reply, "Marvin said that you wanted to see me, sir?"

"Come in and close the door behind you, soldier." the voice said, you could tell now that it wasn't your commanding officer's voice. You could tell this because you kind of grow accustom to it after being screamed at for 4 years with the same voice. But this voice was much more demanding and somewhat scary.

You open the door with a loud creaking sound and quietly closed the door behind you, as instructed. You, then turn towards the rest of the room to see Commander Akatsuka and the same two men from before. You stiffen and salute the higher ranking soldier's in front of you, keeping your chin up and gaze fixed past them on a bookshelf, your face completely expressionless.

As you surveyed the room with your peripheral vision you see that your commanding officer was standing to the left most of the room, leaning against the fireplace along with the second tall blonde man. And to the center of the room was the short black haired man, sitting in the desk in the middle of the room with his feet propped up on the surface of the table.

"At ease, Soldier," the second blonde man said.

You soften your stance and rest your arms in front of you.

"Please," the man in the chair said, "come and sit."

You look at the two other men at the fireplace, then walk up to the desk and sit in the wooden chair on the opposite side of the short man.

"Have I done something wrong?" I looked around the room nervously.

The black haired man simply chuckled, then Commander Akatsuka spoke up, "Oh no, cadet, quite the contrary."

That's when the blonde man pushed off from his spot at the fireplace and said, "You do realize your ranking position in your class, correct?"

"Yes, sir, I do."

"Then you will be well aware that you will sooner or later be offered a spot in the Military Police."

I blinked, "Yes sir."

"Well, we are offering you that position now."

I was stricken with shock to hear those words, "Wha-What do you mean?"

"Tch, he means exactly what you think he means." the shorter man said, his face with what looked like a permanent scowl.

"If you think I mean we are allowing you to graduate a year early, then yes, that is what we have agreed upon. You are well above the average soldier and don't require any more training." the blonde man said.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing, to graduate a year early was just not a likely possibility, even for the top ranked soldier's in history. This opportunity was an honor...however-

"I am sorry, but I don't think I can accept this offer if I am to just join the MP..." I said.

"You mean you wish to join another Regiment?" My commanding officer asked me, sounding a little surprised.

I closed my eyes and everything within the past 4 years flashes back in my mind painfully. The endless training, the blood, sweat and tears, my parents, and...Eren.

"The only thing that I desire to use my training for is to kill those human eating bastards and become a Scout."
