Today’s the day, looking down at my left forearm the digits 00:00:00:05:23:00 embedded in the skin slowly counting down to the fateful moment of meeting my soul mate. 5 hours and 23 minutes.
The time was currently 8:58am meaning my rendezvous would happen at exactly 14:21. I had been my waiting my how life for this, watching the happiness it brought my two elder sisters when they were blessed with their other halves. They could turn out to have been your best friend, someone who you’ve only heard of or even a total stranger but you would only know that they are your soul mate once the countdown has ended. I couldn’t wait for the feeling of being loved no matter what.
The cold air whipped my long hair around behind me as I ran towards the studios, my breath creating clouds of fog as I went, my bag hitting the back of my thigh, a light rosy tint must have coated my cheeks by now. I skidded round the corner reaching the large door that lead to my dance class, yanking the door open and throwing myself in to the brightly lit corridor. I reached the correct studio and burst in, all eyes turned to focus on me, I scanned the crowd till I found a scowling Mrs Adams.
‘You’re late Miss Morgan! This is the second time this term, if you keep this up you will be out of here before you know it!’ She ranted. Sniggers around the room followed her statement.
‘Sorry Mrs Adams.’ I mumbled hating being the centre of attention.
‘Well as you have finally decided to bless us with your presence you can be the next person to show us your audition.’ She announced.
The rest of the class spread to the outside of the room giving me space in the middle, I put my bag down on the floor and pealed of my jumper revealing my black crop top. I walked into the centre preparing myself, taking deep breaths in and out. Mrs Adam pressed play on the track allowing the melody to flow through the grand speakers. I began my routine losing myself in the music.

The last note hit and a wide grin spread across my face. Some of the class clapped while others just glared.
‘Terrible song choice!’ Mrs Adams appeared, she knew I was a great dancer and hated it. She always had to find something to criticise.
I sat by the side watching as the others did their routines, they were all incredible. The bell rung as Mrs Adams was giving her final lecture.
‘The cast list for the school show will be up by the end of next week after I have finished viewing all the auditions, good luck to you all. Class dismissed.’ She waved us off.
I shoved my jumper on and scampered out of the class not forgetting to grab my bag on the way. As you have probably guessed, I am not one of the popular people at this school. I have my little circle of friends and that’s it, I think the whole popularity ranking is a load of crap. Why should your ‘greatness’ be determined by how many friends you have?! Or how cool you are or if you have the correct image, it’s completely stupid. I entered the classroom where my maths lesson would take place.
‘Hey Em!’ My best friend called me over.
‘Hey Ava.’ I replied. Ava has been my friend since I started here; she has long brown hair and large brown doe eyes.
Ava gasped and grabbed my left arm pulling it across my body so it was closer to her.
‘4 hours, 14 minutes and 56 seconds.’ She squealed excitedly.
‘Shh.’ I chuckled at the behaviour of my friend.
‘But you’re going to meet your soul mate!’ She exclaimed.
‘I know, I can’t wait.’ I admitted.
Maths and Chemistry flew by meaning it was now lunch meaning 2 hours and 37 minutes and 2 seconds remained.
I sat nervously at our lunch table. Our table consisted of Ava, Zach, Sasha, Matt and myself.
‘What’s got you bouncing in your seat?’ Zach laughed directing his question at me.
‘She’s meeting her soul mate today.’ Ava piped up.
‘Congrats Em.’ Sasha mentioned cuddling into Matt’s side.
My eyes travelled across the room looking at every boy trying to work out who he might be. Unfortunately my time searching the lunch room came to an end as I had to go to my next lesson.
Art was a subject I had chosen to take and it was my favourite thing to do aside from dancing. I sat at my desk sketchbook open, drawing and etching lines and curves into the page. Letting my mind decide what I drew, I lifted my pencil away from the page looking down at my piece. I had drawn a bird, a beautiful bird. I got up from my seat to go and fetch colouring pencils from the cupboard when someone ran into me.
They were carrying paint.
It went all over me; red, blue, green and orange covered me. I tried wiping it off but it left bright stains, well this is just great. I packed up my books and left the classroom as soon as the bell went. I wandered through the sea of people keeping my head down when for the second time to day I ran into somebody, their arms going to my waist to prevent me from falling over. I lifted my head to shout at the person but my words got lodged in my throat as two bright blue eyes came into view. My heart began to accelerate as he opened his mouth.
‘Mine.’ He mumbled staring straight at me.
