Nico's POV
"I don't know if he's okay... I haven't visited him for two weeks." I put my phone on my shoulder, a cup of coffee in hand together with a sixty page research. "Yes mom. I'll try. Okay, Love you."
Sally...my well, mom (I consider her as a mom) told me to check on Percy since he was staying on the beach cabin for about a week to clear his mind about...Annabeth's recent death.
"Yo, Nico. Finish with that research yet?" Asked Lucas, one of my classmates as he walked towards the printer.
"Well...quite. I need Chapter Five's summarization and conclusion together with that damned recommendation. Besides that, nothing else." I said while putting the bind on the table. I took a quick sip and put the phone back on my messenger bag.
Lucas sat at one of the countertop. He put his hands on his pocket and gaze at the ceiling of the computer room.
"I'll finish that." He suggested.
That made me choke on my coffee. "Bloody hell, man. What's gotten into you?"
"Oh, shut up." He rolled his eyes. "I...overheard your conversation with your mom...er, you really should check your brother."
I smiled and nodded my head.
"Look, I'll go now." He said and stood up, brushing his jeans. "Just give me the whole research and I'll finish it, okay?"
"Okay, man."
I looked pass my shoulder as he left the door.
That was the time I decided that I should go too.
As I went out of the school ground towards the parking lot, I can't help but to get sad at the thought that I wouldn't get to see Annabeth again. I can't help but to feel sad for Percy because Annabeth was his anchor to the world for almost all his life.
And just like that, she had to die in his arms.
It has been five months since her death, and since then Percy's never the same again. He would seldom talk to us anymore, make jokes anymore or even see us for that matter. It's as if he completely shut the world around him.
The only joy he had was his children. He would play with them and take care of them, lull them to sleep until he slept with them too. I sometimes wonder that if without them, Percy would gone mayhem.
There were times when I saw him sobbing on his room when he thought we're already asleep. Little things affect him too much, that being around him was like being around a thin glass. There were bags under his eyes and he wouldn't mind his messy hair. He left his job under Poseidon's care. He only cared for his children.
He was never the same.
Three weeks before, he had a sudden attack of FMS and the doctor gave him at least a couple of weeks to live. This time, it's for real. We confronted other doctors for second opinion and they said the same thing. They might be able to try operating him again, but he stopped them.
Now, he has to be pulled by the wheelchair since he can barely move his feet. It was hard seeing him like this, and it pains us knowing that he could embrace death whenever he likes it.
"Nico!" A voice shouted from behind.
I turned to look around and see Toby and Zach running. I grinned as I saw them until I remembered that Ian could no longer be with them; I kept a straight face.
"Fancy seeing you here." I said, half smiling.
"No need for formalities." Zach crossed his arms while rolling his eyes. Toby just grinned at him.
