I awoke some time around 10 a.m. the next morning to the most annoying noise in the history of everything-a squawking bird. "You can shut up , you know." I said angrily at my new pet, "I'm awake now." The second I finished my sentence, the bird stopped making noise mid-squawk, like it was forced to do so.
I got up and went to the kitchen for some breakfast. Aunt Dawn had already been there, it didn't seem like she was here. I thought she was suppose to take me to that camp today.
I guess she had to go out for something. My assumptions were about to be proven right as I saw a piece of paper on the counter with my name printed on the outside of the fold. When I unfolded the note it read;Dear Ashley,
I know what you're thinking, 'Where the fudge is Aunt Dawn?', well I went out to go get some things. I should be back within a few hours to take you to the camp I told you about last night. I made you some breakfast and left it in the fridge (Pancakes, your favorite right?). If anyone comes to the door, I repeat, ANYONE but me, don't answer it! Wait for me to get home. While you wait you can watch TV or play some video games I have. Be back soon!! <3
Love you! -Aunt Dawn
P.S.- Don't forget to feed Ashes! Hope you don't mind I took the liberty to give your bird a name, it seemed fitting, you know? I think it makes the two of you have a deeper connection.
Well, it seems I have the whole house to myself for the moment. I decided to try and catch up on some of my favorite TV series like, Scream Queens and Family Guy while eating some of the microwave heated pancakes Aunt Dawn left for me. They are like heaven in my mouth.
Before I knew it, 2 hours had gone by. Aunt Dawn still hasn't gotten home and I've already watched the episodes I've missed, played a little bit of each video game and-CRAP! I got up and started to run to the kitchen, I see a small bag of sunflower seeds and snatch them up and start to take off down the hall to my room. When I burst through the door I said "I am soooooo sorry Ashes! I didn't mean to forget to feed you, please don't hate me." as I poured the seeds into the little bowl inside the cage, feeling pretty horrible about forgetting. I looked at the bird with eyes of apology, and it looked back at me as if it was saying, "Don't worry, not like I COULD HAVE DIED!"
At that moment I heard a knock on the front door and I peeked out the door from my room towards the entrance. Slowly, I crept down the hallway trying not to make as little noise as possible. This obviously wasn't Aunt Dawn, who wouldn't have the key to their own house? I snuck up to the door and peeked out the small window it had embedded inside itself. Outside the door was a not so-normal looking guy. He seemed to be around 3 times my age, had literally no hair and was pale as crap. If I'm being honest, he was pretty fucking scary. Like, really, weird looking. I was tempted to scream out of fear. I was about to turn around and go hide in the closet until he left, but right as I began to turn he looked right down at me.
I opened the door and looked at him with a confused look, "Yes? What do you need?" I asked. He looked at me with a creepy expression "Oh I was just looking for a girl named Ashley Davis. Is she here?" He asked so politely it was uncomfortable to even hear it. "Uh, nope. Never heard of that name-kind of a stupid name anyway. Okay well, bye!" Before he could say anything else, I shut the door as hard as I could-just in case he tried to stop it with his foot. Sure, it would still stop, but it would hurt like hell if he tried. That, and I would throw down if I had to.
The guy went away a few seconds later, after looking in the windows while I hid behind the wall, and around 30 minutes after that, Aunt Dawn finally returned home. When she walked in she was dragging around 6 large shopping bags with her, I was too stunned to move when I saw them. "Okay yea...thanks for the help Ashley." She said almost out of breath. "Oh sorry!" I said as I jumped up and helped her move the bags over onto the dining room table, "Geez, Aunt Dawn, what did you buy so much of?" I asked, almost out of oxygen. "Its stuff for you to use while you're at the camp. Normal things like, clothes, tooth brush, tooth paste...lady items... bird food, the normal." She said with a smile, then I remembered something. The creepy smile the weird man had given me from earlier that day, I decided to tell her about the event, "Aunt Dawn, there was this man that came to the door earlier-" She cut me off with a worried voice "You didn't open the door did you?! What did he look like? Did you tell him your name? Okay, okay, calm down Dawn." She said to herself after freaking out for a few seconds, "Don't worry about it, sweety. Once you get to camp, you will be safe, lets just try and enjoy the rest of the day. Do you want some cookies?" She said, sweetly-completely changing demeanor in a matter of seconds.
After that, it was around 1 p.m., so we ate some lunch. Then Aunt Dawn went and got 2 spare suitcases she had and we began to pack up for the camp. Finally, around 4, we had everything packed and in the car. We both got in and she began to start the car, "Aunt Dawn, how long will this actually take to get there?" I asked like the spoiled kids on TV. "Around 45 minutes without traffic, so really around an hour and a half." She said without taking her eyes off the road she was about to pull onto. Finally she pulled out and we were on our way. I'm actually kinda excited to be going to a camp, I've never been to one in my life. I wonder what they are like...
