Story time

Prologue

"Benjamin James, hurry up they can be here any moment!" I shout upstairs. "I'm coming honey."  *doorbell rings*

"They're already here." I say to myself. I open the door, let them all in and then I greet my daughter Ruby with her husband Daniel. And her three children, George her oldest son, Lilly her daughter and little Nathan.

"Where is grandfather Ben?" little Nathan ask. "I'm here, come here little Nathan." Nathan runs into Ben's arms and gives him a hug. I walk op to Ruby and say, "How is it possible that you're always on time my child." "I don't know mom, it's a gift." she smiles and gives me a hug. "I missed you mom." "I missed you too darling." "Who wants something to drink?" Ben asks, we all respond so we decide we are going to drink something in the living room.

"When is uncle Thomas coming mom?" I hear Lilly. "I don't know. Mom when is Thomas coming?" "Ehm, he told me he would be here at 15.00 but we all know him. He'll probably arrive here too late, like every other time. "Okay, granny." Lilly says. "George, why don't you go play a game with your little sister and brother." Ruby says. "Do I have to mom?" He says irritated. "Yes go." "Okay, fine." He walks to Nathan and grabs him, "Come Lilly." They walk to our garden to go play hide and seek.

"It's 17.00 and uncle Thommy is still not here, where is he." "Don't worry honey, he will come soon." I say to Lilly, I hope he will be here soon. "Ben!" "Yes sweetie?" "Can you call Thomas for me please?" "Of course, I'll call him and ask him where he is and why it's taking so long for him to get here." "Thank you." I blow a kiss to Ben and then walk to Daniel. "So how is your work going?" "It's going great, probably going to be promoted in a few weeks." "That's great to hear."
"Lex?!" "Yes Ben." "Thomas had car trouble, but he's back on the road again and will be here in an hour." "Okay, good to hear. Thanks for calling." "Kids! Uncle Thomas will be here in an hour so could you help me with dinner?" "Yes of course granny." "Nathan, Lilly you can clean the table and get it ready for dinner. George you can help me with making the pizza." "Kay, let do thissss." Nathan says.

I look at the clock and see it's already 18.30, why is Thomas not here yet. "Ben? Should I call Thomas?" I say. "Don't worry, he's probably almost here and otherwise he can't take the phone because he's driving." He smiles at me. "That's true."
*doorbell rings*
"I'll go!" I say while I walk to the door and open it. "Thomas you're finally here." He gives me a hug and says, "Sorry mom that I'm so late but I have a surprise." He walks to his car and two little boys get out. "Who are these cute little guys, Thom?" "This is Dylan and this is Philip, I adopted these two little mans." "Are you serious?" "Yes, what do you think? Did I do something good?" "Yes you did great, now come on let me say hello to these guys." He grabs them and walks up to me. They're a little shy, but they're also smiling. So good to see two of my new grandchildren. "Where is Cloë?" "She's in the car mom. Could you take the boys for a minute, so I can help Cloë." "Of course." He helps Cloë his girlfriend, and they come in. Cloë is pregnant so she needed help to get out of the car. When they're inside I welcome them.
"It's time to eat."

I'm eating my desert when Lilly asks me something. "Granny? How did you meet grandpa?" "Why do you ask?" "I'm asking because you're married for almost 50 years and you never told something about your life with grandpa. And I just want to know something more about your life. If you don't mind." "Of course not, I was just curious why you wanted to know, most girls your age don't care about that stuff. What do you want to know because I'm 75 my story would be a long sit." "All of it, but some things are private of course." Everyone starts laughing, then she goes on. "Why don't just start at the beginning. Where did you meet him? Was it love at first sight or later. Let's start at that." She smiles at me. "Let's make a deal. If you help me make the rooms ready for bedtime first, then after that I will tell my story at the fireplace. Is that a deal Lilly?" "Deal, can't wait till the rooms are ready." She smiles to everyone at the table. It went quiet when she had ask her first thing. Nathan didn't get it, George looked bored, but the rest looked interested. "Is everyone done eating?" Lilly asks. All of us say yes. "Great. Mom, dad it's your turn to do the dishes. George you have to play with Nathan. Uncle Thomas you can help grandpa make the fireplace ready. Cloë you don't have to do anything, you can rest. Oh Thomas you also have to watch out for Dylan and Philip, but that's not a problem because they're almost asleep. Okay? I will help grandmom with the rooms." She was the leader of the pack at that moment. "Okay let's start." Uncle Thomas says.

Me and Lilly come downstairs and everybody is sitting by the fireplace already. They even made chocolate milk for everyone. Nathan, Dylan and Philip are already in bed. And Cloë is thinking to go to bed early, but she doesn't want to miss the story. So we will see how long she will stay awake.
"Is everyone ready for the story?" I ask. "Yeah, please tell us." After Lilly said that I begin.
"It all started 60 years ago when I went to a concert with Tiffany who is my best friend and two other friends."
