Amelia comes back with another woman.
"Hello, This is Mrs. Margaret Walker. She is your social worker. That means she is going to be someone else who will help you guys stay safe, okay?"
"Okay," I reply.
"Well, your name is Lily," Mrs. Walker says to Lily glancing at her sheet.
"Hi, " Lily mumbles quietly. She plays with the bottom of her dress, letting out the nervous energy.
"Hi, Lily, How are you," she asks kindly.
"I am gwood," she said.
"That is wonderful. Well, you and your sister are going to stay with Amelia tonight. Is that okay?"
"Only if Marwiana will be there."
"Your sister will be there to."
I am weary of staying with a stranger, but Amelia seems nice enough. Plus, we have no where else to go. Mrs. Walker comes over to talk to me.
"Mariana, are you okay? Amelia was telling me about you."
"I am fine. I don't need your sympathy," I reply sharply. After the fact a feel bad what has this woman done for me to be rude to her.
"Well, I am sorry. I know you are strong girl and you don't need any of my sympathy. Do you have any close relatives that you feel safe with?"
"No, it is just me and Lily. Our mother is dead," I state with an edge of sadness.
"I am sorry to hear that. If you did I might've been able to place you with some relatives."
"Well, I don't."
"Tonight, like I said earlier you will stay with Amelia. I will try to see if I can find something more permanent soon."
"Okay,Thanks," I say plainly.
Amelia House isn't as big as our house, but it is a good size. There are four bedrooms. Two of them have bunk beds. We put our stuff in the pink one with a bunk-bed. This is after she gave a tour of the entire place.
"How do you like your room?"
"It is nice."
"Good."
"You live here alone?"
"Yes."
"Why do you have so many rooms?"
"So I can help people, who need a safe home."
"That's nice."
"Yeah, it is. Well, I will let you gals get settled in. Unless you need any help?"
"I can handle it."
"Okay. You don't have any allergies or anything?"
"Nope."
"So pizza is fine, right?"
"Yes."
