My first day as a Death Guardian wasn't all it was cracked up to be. I just sat around and waited. I let out a short sigh out of boredom. I was told to stay by my school since there was a portal here. "Portals are how demons enter this realm" Death told me "to send them back you must kill them."
"Ok sounds easy" I say to lord Death (as he wants to be addressed) "where's my weapon." He hands me a scythe and I fell an eminence surge of power.
"This is from my personal collection of my armory" says Death "a powerful scythe called Reap."
"Thank you Lord Death" I say "but why give it to me?"
"Because it chose you" he said vaguely "it saw you were pure of heart."
"Cool." I was in aw. How does an inanimate object chose who is pure of heart? Or have this much power? As I touch it for the first time I feel a surge of energy flow through through me. "Amazing" I exclaim "I've never felt like this before."
"Or carried the fate of the world on your hands" says Death. He's changed his look. Now he looks like the Death from an anime I saw once, but I can't remember it's name.
"Oh that too" I laugh as I speak.
"This is serious work you know" now he's using a stern 'I'm gonna kill you again if you fuck this up' voice "are you sure you can handle it."
"Yes lord Death" I kneel as I say the words to show loyalty.
"Good. Don't expect much on the first day."
"I'll be fine" I assure him.
"I'm trusting you to protect the innocent" he persisted. As if he were teaching me to ride a bike for the first time without training wheels. I then look into his empty sockets where his eyes should be. It still freaks me out then I remember he is Death himself. Then there's a shake and I stand ready. Two dark figures emerge from a blood red whirlpool.
"The portal from hell?" I ask Lord Death.
"Yes" he answers "ready yourself." I stand ready to fight. My first demon fight. Ok I'm ready. I assure myself with this one thought. As the shadows rise from the vortex I get into a battle stance. "Ok let's do this." I charge at them. My first battle has begun.
