I woke up to an empty bed. Had Logan been back at all? I hoped he was okay…
As I sat up, the events of last night replayed through my head. I cringed. Thomas…
A scary thought went through my head. Did Logan not want me now because of last night? What was going on in Logan’s head anyway? And what had been going on in Thomas’s head last night? What made him do such a bold, yet risky and stupid action?
The bathroom door opened and Logan stepped out with wet hair while in just a towel. Of course, I was in awe of his perfect body, like always. But I had other issues at hand.
“Logan…” I whispered. He looked at me with surprise, as if he hadn’t known I was in the room.
“You’re awake,” he stated. I nodded. “How…are you feeling?” he asked, though his words were pained.
I shrugged. “I-I really don’t know.”
He sat on my side of the bed and cradled my face in his large hand.
“You have no idea how sorry I am, Annabelle.”
“Why’re you sorry?”
“Because that lunatic got into our home, and your shower! I should’ve been there; I should’ve kept a better watch on you…”
I put my small hand over his large one. He looked back to me with sad, dark eyes.
“It isn’t your fault,” I said quietly. “None of us expected that.”
“It should’ve never happened though,” he said shamefully.
“But-”
“Look, it’s my job to protect you, and I failed. I put your life- and our baby’s- at risk, and I regret it. You can’t change my feelings on this, Anna. This is how a mate should feel. In pain. I deserve it.”
“Logan,” I whispered.
He looked at me.
“Why didn’t you tell me about the rogues?”
He tensed, but tried to hide it. “I didn’t want you to worry about it, with the baby.”
“Do you think I would’ve felt any better if I saw them coming here, ready to attack?”
“No. they wouldn’t have had the chance,” he said in a near cocky manner, which I almost smiled at. Almost.
“I’m the Luna of this pack, and I have every right to know. I’m perfectly capable of taking care of my emotions, and our child’s emotions, so that it wouldn’t be at risk.”
“How do you know that?” he asked weakly.
“I can feel it growing stronger, Logan. Every day. It has been healthy so far. I can do this. We can do this.”
I took his hand and put it on my stomach. His eyes were squeezed shut, but he soon opened them to look at my stomach, where a very small bump was forming.
Though it’d only been a few days, werewolf babies tend to develop much quicker than human babies do.
“I trust you, Annabelle. I just want to keep our baby safe. As safe as possible. It means everything to me.”
“Me too. We can work it out. We always do. But you need to tell me these things,” I said.
He nodded. “Okay.” He kissed me before standing up and letting his towel drop.
“Agh!” I joked, covering my eyes.
I peeked through my fingers, seeing Logan roll his eyes.
“Like you haven’t seen any of this before.”
I laughed, throwing my head back. He stopped and looked at me.
“What?” I felt self-conscious all of a sudden.
He smirked. “Nothing.”
I frowned. “Tell me.”
“Nah,” he joked, teasing me.
“Aw, come on!” I pleaded.
He shook his head, rummaging his large closet for a shirt.
He was facing the other way, so I snuck out of bed and silently tiptoed against the floor until I was right behind him. I snaked my arms around his bare waist, addicted to the sparks that were emitted between us.
“Please?” I whispered in my ear, trying to be innocent but seductive.
He was frozen, but in a flash I was pinned up against the wall nearest the closet with Logan’s hands on my hips.
“Are you teasing me, Annabelle?”
“I think I am, Mr. Alpha,” I said bravely.
Calling him Alpha must have pushed him further, because he immediately brought his face down to my neck, where he’d marked me when we were drunk. That brought back memories. He gently kissed it, making me go weak at the knees. He picked me up and carried me to the bed. Soon enough, we were lost in each other again.
Later that night, Logan and I just sat peacefully in bed watching TV. I convinced him that it would be okay to just take one day off.
Suddenly Will, a third string, burst through the door.
“Alpha, I’m so sorry but there are nearly two hundred rogues here. Patrol couldn’t hold all of them back.” With that, he was gone.
Logan stood up with a shocked countenance.
I stood up too, putting my hand on his arm. We were both shocked, naturally. We numbly put clothes on and ran downstairs without a word.
About 60% of the pack was there, looking spooked.
Before Logan spoke his soothing words to the pack, he murmured just for me to hear, “There’s going to be a war.”
