Kaneki Ken x Reader | A later

"Kaneki!" You shouted, running up to him, breathing heavily.

No, it's not happening. He couldn't be leaving!

"I... I have to go..." He said.

"Do you think I'd let you go just like that!?" You shouted.

"I'm sorry-" Before he could even finish, you glomped him with a hug from behind.

"I ain't letting you go..."

Kaneki couldn't do anything to this situation, he knew how hard it is for someone to change your mind. And he knew how exactly bad it is gonna be if your wish isn't fulfilled. Regardless of that, he forced himself to do this. He just had to do it.

"[Y/N]-chan..."

"Don't go..."

"I can't... [Y/N]-chan..."

"Just.. don't fucking go!"

"[Y/N]-chan, please let go of me..."

"NO! Just shut up..."

"..and stay with me a little longer..."

You buried your face into Kaneki's back, hugging him from behind tighter as you hold back tears from streamming waterfall down your face. Kaneki's face hold pain and sadness. He didn't want to leave. But he also didn't want anyone to die... He wanted to protect everyone, especially you. All that you wanted was for Kaneki to be by your side, but Kaneki didn't understand that...

You let go of Kaneki... Hanging your head low, not wanting to show your teary face to him. But then, you felt a pair of strong arms wrapped around you. With that, you couldn't hold your tears anymore. They fell down your eyes and you started sobbing, hugging him tight.

"I.. don't want you to go.... Do you really have to?" You asked, hoping to hear a no for his answer.

"Yes..." Fuck this.

"I have to go... I'm sorry, [Y/N]-chan." He gently whispered as he buried his face in the crook of your neck, inhaling and remembering your scent.

"I know why you have to... but I just can't understand..." You muttered.

"You don't have to understand..." He said, pulling himself away from you. A smile formed on his lips.

A fake smile.

You couldn't bear looking at such a pained face, causing more tears to fell. You wiped them off, you knew it was ugly and you had to stay strong.

Kaneki helped you in wiping your tears, as he did, he hold your face in his hand.

"I'll come back... don't worry." He whispered.

You nodded and choke on your tears, "I-I'll be waiting..."

He nodded, "I love you, [Y/N]-chan." giving you a kiss on the lips.

You wrapped your arms around his neck, kissing him back. Those three words and the way he said your name, just those two things gave you the best feeling you had ever felt and probably the best one you would ever feel. You tangled your fingers with his white hair, kissing him deeper.

As you kissed him, time went by slower. Oh, how much you didn't want it to stop. You wanted this moment to last forever, so that he would never leave.

But... Reality is cruel, isn't it?

Kaneki pulled away, giving you that sad, fake smile again.

"Don't smile like that, idiot." You said, this time with a forced smile.

Kaneki let out a chuckle as he stood up straight, "I'll go now."

Forcing yourself to nod, you replied, "Yeah. Don't take too long... Imma eat you if you do."

Kaneki smiled and nodded.

You watched him walking away from you, a sight you never ever wanted to see. You watched him, til you could barely see him. And that's when you broke down.

Remembering that time, you silently sob, covering your face with your hand.

Your last moment together, your last kiss. The last time you hold him in your arms.

Thinking that he would actually come back, you didn't say those three words to him. You saved it for later... "A later" that will never happen.
