I waved goodbye to Lai' as she pulled out of the parking spot in front of my apartment. After closing my front door, I threw my keys and purse on the coffee table. I kicked my heels off and plopped face first onto the comfort of my living room couch. Never again am I going to another club with Lai's crazy ass! She always manages to find herself in some kind of trouble. But hey, that's my girl though. The annoying jingle of my ringtone began to play again for what seemed like the millionth time today. It was probably Lai'lani. I reached over and haphazardly dug through my purse and retrived my phone, answering it without looking at the caller i.d.
"You better be glad that I was with you tonight." I said in a matter of factly tone. She would have been spending the night in jail had I not been there.
"Couldn't think of anyone better to be with."
I was startled at the male voice that I heard come out of the speaker. No way that was Lai'.
"Uh who is this?" I answered back.
"Forgot about me that quickly huh?" He said with a hint of laughter in his voice. "It's Ace, fron Club ICE."
"Oh, hi. Sorry, I wasn't expecting your call so soon."
"I know. I just had to hear that sweet voice of yours again."
Just to hear my voice? I doubt it. There's only one reason why a guy would be calling a girl so late at night. Booty Call.
"Is that the only reason why you called me.." I looked at the clock above my fireplace. "..at three thirty-five in the morning?" I questioned.
"Nah, just wanted to make sure you and your friend Mike Tyson made it home okay."
I laughed.
"Yea. We did thanks. Please excuse her. Sometimes she can be a little much."
"No need for apologies. It's been a while since I've seen good fight."
"I'm just glad it's over." I sighed.
"I bet. But hey listen, I was wondering if you wanted to go out for dinner tomorrow?"
"Uh..I don't know."
I haven't really gotten myself quite as established in moving to a new city as I'd hoped, so dating has been the last thing on my mind.
"Oh come on," He replied. "I'd really like to get to know you better. Trust me, I don't bite."
Even though I know that last part wasn't meant to be the least bit sexual, I still couldn't help but feel a little shiver go down my spine at the thought of having his lips against my skin again...
"Mailyah?"
"Huh?" Damn, I got lost in my thoughts. This man definitely got me tripping.
"I thought you hung up."
I decided to take a shot in the dark and say yes.
"No, I'm still here. How about you pick me up tomorrow night at eight. I'll text you my address."
"Great! See you then, beautiful."
"See you then."
I hung up the phone and tossed it back in my purse on the way to my bedroom. I need to get some sleep if I don't want to be a complete zombie at work tomorrow. I changed my clothes and got into bed in a minute flat. I laid there thinking about Ace and what almost happened between us at the club. If Lai' didn't get into that fight I wonder if I really would have let him kiss me. Definitely not. After all, he is a complete stranger. I fell asleep pushing back the thought that I knew deep in my mind, I would've let him.
