Five o'clock and glad to be rid of Sandra and her bullshit, I caught the bus home, took a shower and decided to get dressed for dinner early. Okay okay maybe I was a little excited but in my defense, this was the first date I'd had in awhile. I settled for a red strappy peplum dress, black booties, a pair of medium sized hoop earrings, and a black clutch. I fluffed my curly mane a little before hearing a knock sound at my door. I opened the door to a bouquet of red roses and a smiling Ace. He was decked out in a grey and black suit looking all the more daper as he stood there effortlessly looking like he belonged in a magazine. He was the epitome of sexy.
"Roses for the lady." He said, pearly whites gleaming.
"Thank you, they're beautiful!" I stepped out onto the porch and saw him eye me. If he stared any harder I was sure his eyeballs would pop out. As I took the flowers from his outstretched hands, I breathed in the amazing scent.
"Found what you were looking for?" I said with my face still in the flowers.
"Sorry. I was just admiring how unbelievably breathtaking you look tonight."
"Well aren't you smooth." I hid my face a little not wanting to show the red flush that had appeared on my cheeks. He winked, his eye catching a glint from the moonlight. We both got into his car that sat idling in the driveway and began on our way.
"So where are we off to?"
"It's a surprise."
"A surprise?" I turned my head and cocked an eyebrow at him.
"Yup. So sit back and enjoy the ride."
"Next thing I know I'm being chased down the street, pants hanging half off my ass, by a 6'4 dude with a bat and a bad ass swing."
I was laughing so hard that I almost fell out of my seat. We were at this rooftop Italian restaurant in downtown L.A. and Ace had just finished his story about his hilariously unfortunate run in with a girl's dad when he was sixteen. The rest of my half-eaten dessert sat untouched on the table in front of me as I held my stomach in fear that I might pop if I took another bite.
"So your raging teenage hormones almost got you killed."
"Yeah. All I can do is thank god that my parents put me in track in high school."
At this point I was on the verge of getting us kicked out of this restaurant if I laughed any louder.
"Wheww. I can't get over this view. It's gorgeous. How'd you find this place?"
"A friend of mine is actually the head chef here." He took a sip of his beer before continuing. "He said I should check it so I thought it would be a good place to bring you."
"This was a pleasant surprise. I've never been to a place like this before..."
I stopped talking when I noticed Ace was staring at me. It wasn't just any stare, it was as if he was searching my face for something he wanted to see.
"What? Why are you always staring at me?"
"Just wondering why your not spoken for yet."
" Well I just moved here a little over a month ago so work has been my main focus."
"Work can't keep you warm at night like a man can."
"I bet." I checked the time on my phone. It was getting late and I had to be up early for work tomorrow. "So are you ready to go?"
"What's the rush? Everything okay?" He said, eyebrows furrowed.
"Yea, everything's fine. I just have to get up early in the morning."
"Alright. Let me just get the check."
Rain was pouring down by the time we pulled up to my apartment. I covered my head with the coat Ace had given me, as he followed behind, and ran to my porch to avoid getting too wet.
"Thanks for tonight, I really had fun." I said as I handed him back his coat. "I would invite you in but I still have boxes I haven't unpacked yet all over the
place." Truth be told, I had everything finished but I knew if I let this dripping wet man inside, there'd be nothing stopping me from ripping all of his clothes off.
"It's fine. I had a great time too. Hopefully we can do this again another time?"
"I'd really like that." He gave me a lustful smile that almost made me throw my morals out the window and let him in after all. "I'd better get inside now and out of these wet clothes."
He nodded.
"Yea, wouldn't want you to get sick. Goodnight."
"Night." I was surprised when he began walking back to his car. I for sure thought that he was going to give me a goodnight kiss as seeing as how great the night went. Guess I was wrong. I went inside and began taking off my wet clothes when I heard a knock at the door.
"Ace did you forget something?"
"Yea, this." He took my face between his hands and landed the sweetest most gentlest kiss I had ever had onto my lips.
"Goodnight." And with that last word he was gone again. Leaving me to savor what was left of that incredible kiss.
