I decided to get in the shower instead. After all, I did have work in an hour. I had just gotten this new job at a boutique a couple blocks from my house. It wasn't my dream job, but it got the bills paid. I take the city bus to work because at the moment I don't have a car. When we lived together, Lai' used to drive me around. Now that we don't, the bus is my only option. Worst thing about going in today is that Sandra's going to be there. Ever since my first day on the job this chick has had a target on my back. I don't know what it is, but as long as she stays in her place there won't be any problems. When I arrived at work I noticed a new shipment of dresses being brought in by the store owner Yvonne. Usually someone would be helping her but there was no one in sight.
"Here Yvonne, let me help you with that."
"Thanks so much Maliyah." She said as she blew hair out of her face.
"Shouldn't Sandra be here by now?"
"She should. I swear if that girl wasn't my husband's niece, I would've fired her a long time ago."
"I wouldn't blame you." Just as I finished my sentence Sandra walked up to us.
"For your sake "Houston", I suggest you keep my name out your mouth."
She continued on her way into the store. I bit my lip to hold back something I knew had the potential to make me lose me job. She's lucky Yvonne is out here because I would've whooped her ass.
"Don't mind her." Yvonne said.
"Oh trust me, I dont."
Seven hours in that hell hole and I was exhausted. As soon as I got home I plunged into bed not even bothering to change clothes, and let sleep take hold of me. I was awoken out of my peaceful slumber to the sound of my phone ringing.
"Hello?" I rasped tiredly.
"Maliyah! Finally! I've been calling you and knocking on your door for the past thirty minutes. Did you forget we were supposed to go out tonight?"
I looked at my alarm clock that displayed the time eight-thirty. Oh shit! I was so tired from work today that it had completely slipped my mind. I had already promised her I would go so there was no way I could get out of it now.
"Hold on. I'm coming to let you in." I hung up and reluctantly got out bed to open the door.
"You look like hell." She said to me.
"Oh shut up. I'm going to get dressed. Be back in a minute."
As I wiped the sleep out of my eyes, I went in my closet in search of the right outfit. I thought maybe I could wear that new little black dress I bought two weeks ago. Nah, not cute enough. I decided to go with a white crop top with gold lettering across the chest, my super sexy black skinny jeans, and the heels to match. After getting primped and pretty, I checked myself out one last time in the mirror. I was told by many people I had the potential to become a model. I was 5'7, brown sugar skintone, light brown eyes, long black curly hair, and curves in all the right places. Adding a little lip gloss was my final touch and I was ready to go.
"Look at you looking all sexy." Lai'lani said. "You're giving me a run for my money."
"Oh no, you definitely have me beat."
Lai'lani was wearing a blue skin tight bandage dress, that went well with her honey-toned skin and a pair of black stilettos that even a recovering shoe-aholic couldn't resist. I'm so borrowing those. Her newly dyed burgundy locks were neately placed in a high bun and the chandellier earrings hanging from her ear lobes brought out the gold flecks in her piercing green eyes.
