The battle ended. Fuzzytail, Breezestar guessed. He curled up in his nest, next to Stormpaw, because of the way he fought today. Stormpaw purred slowly, then stopped soon enough, so Breezestar could get some sleep.
Breezestar looked to see Brightsky. "That was one of the punishments, there will be more," she mewed softly. Breezestar looked around to see a kit standing underneath a tree trunk. "This is Barkkit, supposed to be in your litter, look at his brown pelt, similar in any way?" "Yes," Breezestar said examining the kit. "Fuzzytail and Fuzzypaw."
He awoke with a screech, and looked around quickly. A cat was yowling in pain. He pelted out to see Swiftspots being squashed to death by a boulder. Breezestar and the other cats, including Stormpaw, Snowpaw, and Nightpaw, stared in horror. Firetail ran out as well, and stood in horror as she was her brother suffocate. Breezestar's claws dug into the dirt as he watched his deputy die. Everybody was too shocked too move. Swiftspots gasped one more time, as blood dropped all over the stony ground. He let his head fall down in whispered to Breezestar quietly, "Please, appoint a new deputy tonight, and I'm talking about Rabbittail." Breezestar looked down. Rabbittail was his son. Breezestar looked around at his clan. "He's dead, and I must appoint a new deputy, since it is already moonlight." The other cats looked down at their shuffling paws. Breezestar then jumped upon his stone.
"We're all here, good," he meowed examining the camp. "As you all know, Swiftspots died today." There was a little ripple of sad mews. "He was a great deputy, but I must call a new one. Rabbittail, you are an experienced warrior, and there is no one I can trust more. Will you uphold the duties of a deputy?" He nodded, still shocked. "Well then, I guess you can arrange the patrols tomorrow." Then he added, "These are dark times for our clans."
It was morning, the first day of Rabbittail's deputy duties. He arranged the patrol, with all the apprentices and Breezestar leading it. "Good choice," he murmured truthful as he walked pass Rabbittail. He wasn't lying though, he can get in some training with the apprentinces. Plus, there is five of them. Snowpaw and Nightpaw then walked suspiciously past Whitefur, their fur touching. Breezestar was happy to see them coming along, they didn't always treat each other well. One time, Snowpaw stuffed Nightpaw's nest with thorns. As revenge, Nightpaw put thorns in HER. Snowpaw was mad at her ever since. Stormpaw walked past them, but Breezestar couldn't read his expression that well. All he saw was love. Finally, Breezestar thought, nearly out loud.
The patrol begun. Breezestar thought that Leopardpaw and Fuzzypaw were going to be given their warrior names soon. But then Fuzzypaw shivered with that idea. "Can I be held back? I want to train with Stormpaw." Breezestar nodded. "Stormpaw, did you hear that? Fuzzypaw is being held back to stay with you." Stormpaw looked a bit dull, but Breezestar could tell that he loved Fuzzypaw by the look of his face. "Yeah."
