A sleepless night in the hospital left many of the pros angry and confused. Random outbursts of crying and pacing around the room were common. They'd been there for almost nine hours and haven't heard anything, they were thinking for the worse.
The waiting room was mostly empty aside from the group from Dancing with the Stars. Finally after those nine tear-filled hours, they heard something. A doctor entered the waiting room room heading straight for them. All of them with hopeful looks, afraid of losing them. "Family of Hayley Erbert?" he asks.
Derek, who'd been staring at his phone, head shot up to look up at the doctor. "Yeah." Derek replies.
"She's going to be fine, but there's a slight issue." the doctor states.
"What kind of issue?" Allison questions.
"The bullet was lodged in her upper thigh, where two bones and a lot of nerves connect." the doctor explains.
"What are you implying?" Val demands.
"Hayley is paralyzed in her left leg, it's most likely that she'll never dance again." he says. No one replies to that, dancing is everything to everyone in that room, they couldn't imagine their lives without it.
"You said most likely?" Derek questions.
"She could, but that's going to take time and she'll need someone there to help her or going to have a pretty miserable life." the doctor says, "She'll be awake in a few minutes." They decide who's going in first and they said Derek because she's known him the longest. Derek wished that this wasn't the way he'd have to see Hayley.
On the other hand, he'd began to like Hayley towards the end of the tour. Though he'd never thought this would've been the best opportunity to tell her, Hayley's probably going to want to ask a lot of questions. He finds the room that the doctor sent him to and he too a deep breath before opening the door.

(Derek's POV)
After I enter the room, I find Hayley in a hospital bed. Her heart monitor showing a steady beat, she looks so peaceful- that's about to change when she wakes up. It could be worse, she could be dead. I take a seat next to her bed and patiently wait for her to wake up.
Hayley stirs a bit before her eyes slowly open. Her eyes search the room before she sees me. "Derek." she says, her voice filled with pain.
    "Yeah Hayley?" I ask.
    "Where am I?" Hayley questions.
"You're in the hospital." I reply.
    "Hospital?" she asks.
"Do you remember what happened?" I question, I really don't want to be the one to give her the bad news. "No- wait the shooting?" Hayley questions, "Did I get shot?" Her eyes are filled with panic as they welt up with tears.
    "You were." I say.
"Derek why can't I feel my leg?" she demands.
"It's paralyzed." I whisper. She doesn't say anything for a few minutes, silent tears escape her eyes. "But Hayley you can get better." I promise.
    "How?" she sobs.
"You'll need someone to help you, but you'll be ok again, I promise." I say taking her hand, "You'll get better." A smile crosses her sad face as she looks down at her leg. "I hope so." she adds.
    "You'll dance again, one day."
