Let's get back to the main story for a minute. May 6 is coming up. That's the day we have a chess game against some students of Champs. We just have to get through the rest of March and April and then the big chess battle and we'll see who wins this battle.
Now, back to me and Audrey's friendship anniversary adventure.
Now, in order to get my party for her done, I need to get my backup phone for Nicco since he cracked his. However, Maristella took my backup away and it's at his house. So, I asked Marissa to help me break into his house and find it. Now so Audrey doesn't think I forget, I asked her to come with us.
Since it's a Sunday, Maristella would usually be gone the whole day hanging with the other teachers talking crap about us. As Marissa parked her Civic, I decided to try to go in the house by going through the chimney. Marissa used a paper clip for her and Audrey. I went through the chimney for a head start since his at home desk is near the fireplace.
I checked every drawer and found the phone in the third one. Marissa was in the kitchen snooping through his fridge. Audrey was sitting on the couch watching some documentaries from Maristella's DVD player.
"What is that?" I asked.
"This video was recorded in 2003." Audrey seemed interested. "I think, these are his wedding videos..."
Oh. My. Gosh. I understand now. I understand why he seems so sad all the time. I understand why he isn't usually happy. I understand why he won't let me sign him up for dating websites!
He's missing his wife.
Obviously she's dead because when you divorce someone you don't watch the videos of your happiness. Then there wouldn't be a reason for separation.
I feel so bad for always picking on up for being single. JEEPERS CREEPERS IM GETTING FEELINGS! I gotta get out of here!
"So, since his wife is dead, he's a, man widow?" I asked Audrey.
"What?" She seemed confused, which is odd cuz she's the smart one here.
"Well, when a husband dies, the wife is a widow. So what's the husband if the wife died? A midow!?"
"No. Not even close."
Oh whatever.
As the three of us left the house, we didn't really leave. Mr. Maristella was standing right there with the cops. He noticed the door knob was broken (thanks Marissa) and didn't even let us talk. Wow old man! And to think my heart would kinda warm up to you.
The cops drove us away to the precinct. Audrey was staring at me in a hateful way.
"Thanks for the anniversary, friend." She said glaring at me.
"Don't worry. My dad can bail us out."
It's true.
We were sitting down in this mini jail at the precinct. I don't know what it's called. But anyways we were there and I was playing "Permanent Vacation" by 5SOS with a harmonica I found. The guy gave me a quarter to call my dad.
After dad bailed us out, Marissa ran back to get her car. Audrey left. She wasn't mad at me. I can Tell. So I'm ok.
I decided to change my surprise for audrey. If she ever saw that phone again, it'll remind her of the day she sat down in a precinct. Nobody wants that.
I got Audrey a necklace with the engraving "03.28" March 28. Our friendship anniversary.
The next day at school, Audrey dropped me off wearing her new necklace. I saw Maristella walking to his room. I still feel bad that he is so sad all the time cuz the pain of his wife passing is still there.
Oh jeez. I'm developing feelings.
