Tyler’s P.O.V
I walk over a give her a nice big hug and tell her that cowgirls don’t cry, but i started crying knowing that I am losing more than just a friend. I deeply wish that she didn’t have to move.
I stand in the waiting zone, where you can watch the planes. I watch her take her final step into the plane, i blow her a kiss but she never got it.
Charlie bursts into tears along with the other girls, so all us guys end up comforting them as wee wave her goodbye.
And we all watch as the plane takes her further and further away.
Hazel’s P.O.V
The lady at the desk scans my boarding ticket or should I say, my one way ticket and tells us to enjoy our flight, my dad and I look up and down the aisle to find our seats. Dad lets me have his as its the window seat, so i sit down while he puts our bags in the upper compartment, I buckle up when the pilot says so, then i catch a last glimpse of all my friends before we are driven on to the runway in the plane.
Dad must sense my sadness as he said:
“Think of this plane trip like a new beginning, you are leaving your old self back there, on the ground and flying higher and higher to claim your new one!”
“Thanks for the words of wisdom!” I chuckle.
“Anytime.” He said smiling at me.
I watch as my friends get ever smaller and further away. The tears creeping up on me a re choked back down as I think of the scenery I will be seeing and the flight ahead.
It wasn’t a long flight, less than 5 hours, but the scenery was amazingly beautiful.
The plane touched down in Vancouver, bustling with activity. It wasn’t till I stepped outside that I realised how god damn cold it was. I think dad picked up on it too as he shivered.
We got in to the taxi that would be taking us to Calgary via Kamloops, where we will be staying the night, as it is a 10 and a ½ hour trip to Calgary.
I fell asleep in the taxi because when I woke up, we were just pulling in to the motel.
“Impeccable timing, young lady.” Dad said smiling at me from the front seat.
I giggle, still half asleep.
I went straight to bed after I had a shower and unpacked a bit. Only to wake up the next morning to dad shaking me saying (or rather yelling);
“Good morning Sunshine!!!”
“ARGH I’m tired.” I say due to my lack of sleep lately.
“Well we are leaving at 7:00am so that we can hopefully make to your grandpas ranch by mid afternoon, his ranch is and extra ½ hour out of Calgary.” My dad said, shovelling cereal into his mouth.
We make it to Calgary sooner than expected, about 2pm. We travelled the extra ½ hour to my grandpa’s ranch.
My grandpa was waiting out the front of his house along with 3 other people; 2 boys and young looking girl.
“Grandpa!” I exclaim, running up and hugging him.
“Is that you hazel? My gosh, I haven’t seen you since you were, this high.” He said while showing me how small i would have been.
“Dad. How’ve you been?” my dad said shaking hands with grandpa.
“Son, long time, how’s it been? Sorry about your loss.” He said sympathy lacing his words.
