As I made my way towards the basement door I started thinking about what I was doing. This was crazy. What if this person means to hurt me? Why am I trusting this random text? What do I want to come out of this? I might not be as drunk as I was earlier, but I was still too drunk to be having all of these thoughts.
I was only a few steps from the basement door when I heard the worst sound I'd probably ever heard in my entire life. Sammy's drunken whining.
"Where's my Trev-Trev?!" I turned around and I saw her, screeching my name from the top of the stairs over looking her living room. I had to get downstairs before she saw me and kidnapped me.
In the next few minutes I did some incredible ninja dodge techniques (ducking behind a group of awkward teenagers and dashing through the door before she turned my way) and was able to successfully avoid Sammy's ranting and raving about why I didn't meet her up in her room hours ago. I was safe on the other side of the basement door where it was a lot quieter, but I still locked the door.. for good measure.
It was super dark. I tried to feel around for a light switch but it was to no avail. Sighing in defeat, I pulled out my phone and switched on the flashlight. Who says technology is ruining the world? I began my descent down the carpeted stairs, feeling thankful that Sammy's family was loaded so her basement was nice and furnished rather than old and creepy.
When I got to the last step I looked around with my flashlight. The basement was huge. The first thing you see when you pass the hallway after the stairs is a giant home entertainment center. It has gaming systems, stereos, a giant TV, and a huge couch that looked so comfy I wanted to pass out on it. It was tempting but I was able to mentally snap myself out of it, I had a mystery to solve. I passed the entertainment center and made my way towards the hallway. A person could live happily down here and never know it was a basement.
Right before I entered the hallway, sort of behind the entertainment room, there was a full kitchen with anything you'd ever need. I shook my head and continued into the hall, there is such a thing as too much money.
Immediately on the right of the hallway there was a bathroom, then a little bit ahead there was a bedroom on the left side of the hall. At the end of the hall there was a single door. It, unlike all the other doors, was closed. I approached the door somewhat nervously, wondering what could be on the other side. Hesitantly, I put my hand on the doorknob and opened the door. I winced as it creaked, of course, how could at least one thing not be creepy? This is a basement for crying out loud.
Ignoring my childish fears, I pointed my flashlight in the room and looked all around. There was no one there! Was this all some joke? I looked around the room one more time.
It was just a stupid exercise room. There's nothing and no one in here. I exited the room and slammed the door angrily behind me. This was probably a stupid prank from my friends. This is something they would do. They're probably going to laugh at me the second I go up there. Why do they always pull these stupid pranks? We're about to be adults and they still do stuff like this?! So immature.
In my anger, I didn't notice that my flashlight had gone off until I ran into a wall. I rubbed my forehead as I peered down at my phone. Of course it would die now. I guess this is what I get for drinking too much and not remembering to charge it after I talked to my mom.
My mom... I suddenly felt very guilty. I left her all alone in our house, the house she and my dad raised me in. How could I be so selfish? She's sacrificed everything for me and all I do is get suspended and go to wild parties to distract myself. I didn't know how to face her though, and she clearly didn't want to talk about it. Plus she's probably sleeping right now considering how much she had to drink. I'll see her in the morning and I'll have breakfast and Tylenol ready for her when she wakes up.
