A/N: Sorry I haven't updated in a while, I have so many ideas but no idea how to put them into this story, plus I got pretty busy. Anyways, let's see where I decide to take this chapter... Oh boy here we go!
After seventh period I left the school building and walked out to my car. Once inside, I sat in the parking lot and waited for the student traffic to go down so I could leave without too much hassle. While I was waiting I thought about what happened today.
*Flashback to the principal's office*
I walked into the office and took my seat. Not too long after, Mr. Barnes walked in with a slip for my parents to sign. I waited for him to do his worst, but the worst never came.
"Mr. Nott, you are fully aware of our rules on use of profanities here, you know the consequences I assume. I've notified your family and you are expected to be home immediately after school, you will continue the rest of your school day today, report back on Tuesday with this slip signed. That will be all, thank you." He handed me the slip and waved his hand at the door for me to leave.
That's it? That's all I get? I stared at him for a few seconds before I decided to get up and stop questioning what just happened. If he didn't want to yell at me, who am I to say otherwise? My parents will do the yelling I'm sure. I looked back at him before I left the room, he was rubbing his temples with his eyes stamped shut. I wondered what he was so stressed about?*End of flashback*
I stared at the steering wheel, thinking about what my parents were going to say when I got home. I also wondered why I was spared the wrath of Mr. Barnes. Usually administrators had a field day with my punishments, I wonder why today was so different.
I noticed the parking lot was almost empty so I turned the key in the ignition and pulled out of the parking lot. It was time to go home and face my parents.
***
I pulled into the driveway and turned off my car. I realized my dad's car wasn't in the driveway next to mine which means he wasn't home. Where could he be? I opened my front door and called out for my mom.
"Hello? Mom? Anyone home?" It took a while for me to get a response.
"In the kitchen, honey." I heard my mother say.
Honey? Didn't she know I had just been suspended? And there was something off about her tone of voice. It sounded like she was...like she was crying."Mom?" I walked into the kitchen and found her with her back to the door. She was sitting at the counter, staring out of the window over our sink. The lights were off and it was pretty dark.
"Mom what's wrong? Why are the lights off? Where's dad?" I started to walk around to face her, that's when I saw the over half empty bottle of scotch and a full glass in her hand. I looked at her face and saw tear streaks mixed with her makeup.
"Oh my god, mom! What are you doing?!" My mother was a recovering alcoholic. She hadn't taken a sip of any alcohol for eleven years. She was doing so well, something big must've happened.
I panicked. "Mom? What happened?" My voice faltered and I started shaking. I couldn't stand seeing her like this. She took a deep breath and looked down.
"Your father is gone. He left me for another woman." She got up and walked out of the kitchen without saying another word. I, however, collapsed into a nearby chair. It felt like someone had knocked the wind out of me.I felt so betrayed. What would happen to our family? Where was my dad going to live? Would he make my mom and I leave and he live here instead with his new wife? Would he still want to see me? Did he even care what happened to us? Would he expect me to leave my mom and live with him? I definitely didn't want to live with him, not after what he did to my mom.
I looked up at the bottle. I wasn't too big on drinking but I was no saint. I didn't want to think anymore, so I grabbed the bottle and downed the rest of it. Once it was gone I threw it in the trash and walked to my room. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and dialed Sammy's number.
"Hey, it's me. I'll be there." I hung up before she could start squealing. I had enough of fake people, but I needed a distraction, and I was sure I could use this party as one.*Woah. Okay I did not know where I was going with that but I'm pretty proud of where it went. Well I'm off to write the next part because I have nothing better to do right now. Hope you liked it!
