A Fool's Song

63 8 12

You were a princess, I was a fool

And yet, you smiled at me.

So why does it hurt?

To think of your eyes, and your mask of gold.

You left that morning for your home,

And I did not see you again.

You fell in love with a handsome prince,

A man who you deserved.

So why am I alone?

Am I not worthy of love?

Certainly not of yours

But of love of the people?

Your smile a poison,

Your eyes a curse.

Why can I not forget you?

Why are the days growing longer?

I have confined myself

To the ballroom you danced in.

The king has left me,

I have nothing to eat.

There is a picture of you painted on the floor

And in my blood.

I love you.

Why could I not see it before?

The door is broken,

There is glass on the floor.

The picture of you has faded,

And I have too.

================

Oh fool, where have you gone?

The tatters of your broken body lie here.

There is a painting of me

On this floor, in your blood.

I told you I would return

Why didn't you wait?

You lost yourself in grief

And now I have too.

Didn't I say you were the one that I loved?

Didn't I promise to return?

Perhaps you did not hear me

Over the noise of the violin players.

I apologise.

You must have heard of the man I married.

I do not love him.

I only loved you.

Your shallow corpse lies in a shattering of glass.

I broke the door to get to you.

My love, I shall lie next to you in wait

Of the sharpness of death.

Your soft velvet clothes have faded,

And now, I have too.

I finally actually wrote something wow
