-Rose-

The rest of the week flew by in a blurry haze, and before I knew it, Friday had already arrived.

And Friday meant date.

And date meant Rose freaking out and locking herself in her room as she screams at her stupid closet for not having anything to wear and stubbing her toe.

Yeah. I stubbed my toe. How lucky. Cue string of profanities that would make a sailor blush.

"Rose!" I heard Lily pounding on my bedroom door as I sat on the floor, wallowing myself up in my own self-pity and a pile of clothes. "Rose, come out! Sitting in there and screaming 'stupid fucking closet-shit! Fuck! Holy mother of holes!' at an inanimate object is not going to help!"

"But Lily," I whined. I wondered how pathetic I sounded, but I didn't care as I pouted at how pathetic all my clothes were. "I've got nothing to wear!"

"And you never will if you don't come out," Lily reasoned. "Rose, I have clothes you can borrow,"

"Yeah?"

"Yes Rose. Now stop being silly," Lily said as I stood up to unlock the door. She took a glance at my floor, which was temporarily playing house for the closetful of clothes strewn over it and couldn't stop the bubble of laughter escaping her lips. "Wow. I've never seem you all panicked like this. You're usually so calm and collected. So it takes a cute guy to get you all flustered huh?"

"Yeah well," I laughed with her. That was something I loved about Lily. Her happiness was so contagious and she always made people smile with her own one. "I'm just..." I looked down at painful memories flooded my brain. I shut my eyes for a moment before forcing a smile. "It's just my first date, you know?"

Lily gaped at me. "Never?" She exclaimed.

"Nope," I said, blushing as I ran my fingers through my hair. "Gosh-I don't even know what to do..." I looked away "Damn. I probably should've never agreed to go out with him, huh? He's going to think I'm a fool. Which I am."

"What? No! Do you not know how infatuated he is with you? He was looking at you during PE all day." Lily insisted. "Plus, you're beautiful, Rose. Any guy would love spending time with you," She beamed up at me with a sweet smile. I laughed at her before rubbing my hand over the top of her head.

"Thanks, Lily." I smiled at her encouraging smile.

"But!" She exclaimed. "It's going to your first date! In 2 hours! I need to doll you up!" She started dragging me towards her room.

"Whoa, Lily!" I nearly tripped as she sat me down in front of her vanity, pulling out a horrifying amount of makeup and hair products. I glared at her as she pulled out dresses after dresses, while giddily stating which dresses would 'maximize my assets'. But even though I was shooting her incredulous looks while she pulled out a skimpy black dress that showed enough skin to make me a hooker, I couldn't help but feel warmth in my heart.

So this is how it feels to have a person care for you. It feels nice. It feels... like my world finally has a little bit of some color other than the black, white, gray and fear that I had gotten very used to.

I wished that it could always stay that way.

But I've learned from experience nothing in this cruel world really stays for very long. Nothing.

Demetri

"Hey there," Dana said, her voice sultry as she twirled a strand of her hair after she opened the door. "What you're doing here?"

"Um hey," I smiled. "Lily called me over."

She narrowed her eyes. "I see," She said frowning, before winking at me. "I'll be in my room if you need me, yeah?"

She trailed off, sashaying her hips as she did, but I paid no attention at all. A long time ago I would've, but after I met Lily...

Well.

She changed my life. I suppose that's what mates do to you.

"Oh, hey! Demetri." Speak of the devil (on in my case, angel). She appeared, closing her bedroom door behind her. Unlike Dana, who was dressed in a skimpy top and shorts, she was in a sweater and jeans. Yet somehow, she still took away my breath with her shy eyes and sweet smile.

"Hey," I smiled at her. "You look beautiful." I said without even meaning to.

She blushed. "You're crazy. I'm not even wearing makeup." She looked down, her cheeks flushed in a rosy crimson.

"You don't need any," I whispered. She looked up, and as her eyes connected with mine, I had a sudden need to kiss her.

And I knew she felt the same, because absentmindedly she inched forward, her eyes trained on my lips. I looked down at her lips, at how luscious they were. I leaned in and-

"Hey can you zip up my-"

Startled, the both of us jumped back, wide-eyed, as Rose stood there with a similar alarmed expression. "What is he doing here?" She exclaimed, clutching her dress against her chest to prevent her dress from falling from her body. The way she was holding it made her curves look more prominent. I looked away.

Why am my heart speeding up?

"Oh!" Lily blinked. "Oh, I asked him over. I wanted a guy's opinion on how you looked. Sorry."

"You could've warned me." Rose said before scowling. "Now, can anyone zip up my dress?" Lily walked over, helping her zip up her dress. She let go of the fistful of fabric she was holding onto, and I realized how lovely she looked like.

She looked like an angel.

Her blonde hair cascaded down her shoulders, and the dress showed off her slender figure and curves I didn't know she had. It didn't reveal much skin, but on her she just looked...

Perfect, a voice in my head murmured.

I couldn't stop myself from agreeing.

"Wow," I finally said. "You look great, Rose."

She looked up at me and for the very first time I saw, through her gray eyes, how vulnerable she actually was. How insecure and uncertain she really was, behind all those walls protecting her heart. So she was, after all, just like any other teenage girl, except she has experienced loss.

I just didn't know at that time how much.

"R-really?" She asked shyly, looking away as she crossed her arms.

"Really," I replied, smiling. "You look...just amazing."

Her stormy grey eyes met mine, and just like how I felt like that day in during the PE class.

My heart starting leaping in my chest, and my skin burn up while-

No. What is up with me? I shook my head. I broke my gaze from her but not before giving her a quick smile. "You do look wonderful though, just so you know."

She frowned. Did she feel that? I couldn't tell; her eyes suddenly became guarded again.

"Thanks," she said, her previous insecurity gone as she hardened her eyes. "Thanks, Demetri. I'll be going to my room now."

So she left awkwardly, leaving a strange feeling in my heart and an aching in my head.
