You open your eyes. You are greeted with a bright overhead light. After blinking a few times and rubbing your eyes, your vision focuses. The room is white. The gown you are wearing is white. Even walls are white and the curtains are the same color. As you begin to wake up, many thoughts are going through your mind as to what's happening. Moreover, you are confused.
"Am I dreaming?" You ask yourself as you try to sit up in your bed. Just then you feel a familiar pain in your lower back and hip area. Pained groans escape your lips as you lay back down gripping the side of the bed. That's when you notice you have a tube in your hand that was linked to a medical bag. As your line of vision moves, you see medical supplies next to you and the heart monitor. It's very clear to you now. You are in a hospital.
Your thoughts are soon interrupted when the door to your room opens. A man in a white coat and clipboard comes in closing the door behind him. It is apparent that he is an older man due to the slight wrinkling of his face and the gray hairs he has.
"Good morning," he says kindly, "I hope you had a good sleep. Now that you are awake, I'd like to check your wound, but most importantly... I've got some questions for you. Before I begin, I am Dr. Springdale."
You, still taking all this in, just nod your head. Scenes from last night begin playing in your head. Those blurred memories about the attack begin to clear up your questions. What happened after that though? You don't seem to remember anything that followed after that.
As you lay there, Dr. Springdale pulls up his chair to the right side of your bed where the wound is located. He begins scanning the area where the bullet went through. The bullet went through the very base of your back and hit your pelvis bone. Perhaps the attacker's aim was off or maybe he didn't want to kill you altogether?
"You are very lucky!" He says nodding his head, "the bullet did nothing more then crack your hip bone. No damage was done to your internal organs. During your surgery we removed the fractured piece and replaced it with an artificial replacement. You will be taking some medication for a few days. It will help with soreness."
You feel saddened but mostly relieved to hear that nothing too serious was done. As you gazed down at yourself, you frown. Why did this man do this to you? As the doctor finished up his writing he turns his attention to you again.
"Now I must ask you the questions." He informs you.
He then begins asking basic questions such as name and date of birth since you've never been admitted into this hospital before. Then when the basics were finished the questions started to pertain to the incident. He asks about the events that took place last night and what you remember. You tell him all that you remember about the tall man but your description of him is vague. At the time of the event, you could only see his faint figure in the darkness.
You can tell Dr. Springdale was unhappy that you didn't have a solid description but you have a question for him. Looking over you begin to speak.
"Dr. Springdale?", you ask in a raspy tone due to the lack of speaking, "how did I get here? I don't remember much after hitting the ground."
"A man from the nearby pizzeria heard the gun shot and reported seeing a man fleeing the scene. He found you and called 911." He responds.
You immediately recall speaking to someone from the pizzeria before the attack. You began wondering if it was the same person.
"His name is Vincent. He's a night guard for the restaurant", he says getting up, "if you need me then you have a button next to your bed. Push it and it will alert us."
Dr. Springdale soon exits the room leaving you alone once again. You keep pondering on the name "Vincent" as you stared at the ceiling. You soon drift off to sleep. The next few days were not so bad. You definitely didn't hurt as much. You were ready to go home after you had time to heal and you got to say your goodbyes to the staff. Your mind is still at unease. As you left the safety of the hospital you thought about Vincent. If he weren't there to save you who knows what would have happened. You probably wouldn't be walking out these doors healed and alive. It was only right to give him gratitude.
You have one objective now...
To properly thank your rescuer, "Vincent."

A/N: I do not know much when it comes to medical procedures but I did a bit of research concerning hip surgery. Hope you enjoyed this chapter!
