I did not get a single text from him this day and not the next day. I started worrying a little bit, that I scared him away, but then on Friday we had class again. So I would see how he is acting there. My host parents gave the ok, that I could take off at 7 on Friday night, so if he was still planning on picking me up, I would be ready to go.
I came late to class Friday, since I wasn't able to find a parking spot right away, but when I entered the room I saw Tyler looking up and smiling at me. The spot next to him was empty, so I walked over there and sat down. I wasn't going to be the first person saying something, so I just took my stuff out and started writing notes.
The whole lecture passed without us saying a word to each other and when I got up he didn't say anything either. It was confusing.
I mumbled a "Bye" and left the room. But as I walked out of the building I felt a hand on my shoulder. "Hey, sorry that I didn't text you. You really confused me there 2 days ago…" Tyler said as I turned around.
First I was a little shocked, but then I had to laugh at him. "I confused you? How that?" I said shaking my head.
"Well you know, I haven't thought of you like a girl who would ask out a guy." he explained a little shy rubbing the back of his head.
"Me neither." I said grinning. "If you don't want to do anything that’s fine." I added a little quieter.
"No, no, no, don't get me wrong. I want to go out with you. I was just so surprised and then I was worrying about what we could do. And then I also had work and everything was just so confusing." he tried to explain in a rush.
"You don't have to explain yourself, Tyler. It doesn't have to be a date. We can just hang out, no strings attached, no worries." I said smiling. "You like video games right?" He nodded. "So we can just hang out and play video games. Or go to an Arcade and play video games there." I smiled at him and saw as he lit up a little.
"Ok, I'll pick you up at 7. Wear something comfortable, I got an idea." he said smiling.
"I am looking forward to that." I answered and waved as I walked to my car.
This day couldn't have passed any slower. I was looking forward to the evening, but the time just wouldn't pass. I got myself ready and waited for my host parents to come home. And when they did, I still had to wait until 7 for Tyler to show up. I was just hoping that he wouldn't be super late. Even though I said we would just hang out, I was super nervous. I didn't know what we were going to do.
At exactly 7 the doorbell rang and I got it before anyone else could. I didn't actually tell my host family that I was going out on a date and not just meeting another Au Pair.
"Bye" I shouted into the house and went out the door as fast as I could.
"Hey." I said then to Tyler, smiling (Yep, once again).
"Hey, you ready to go?" he asked and I looked at him like "Of course I am."
He opened the car door for me and then got in the car himself.
"Ok, so what are we doing?" I asked excited.
"You will see." he said grinning and started driving. "Oh, and I hope you don't mind that I invited some friends of mine for the first part of tonight."
"That's ok" I said, but really, I wasn't thrilled about the fact that he invited other people. But maybe it had a good reason. I would just have to wait and see.
After driving and talking for 20 minutes we stopped at a place I knew. I had been there once. It was an arcade where you could also play laser tag. I had so much fun the last time I did that.
