Ok, I got my parking spot, got myself some coffee and now I am waiting in front of the classroom. As I sit there I don't even notice someone coming up to me.
"You know that it's not Halloween right?" I hear someone asking and look up to come face to face with a tall guy. He looked more like a blur to me.
I must have looked really confused because he began laughing and added "You look like a Zombie."
"Oh." Was the only sound that I brought out before I looked down on the floor again. The guy was probably already gone and still laughing at his really bad joke.
"Oh come on, why so grumpy?" I was looking up with a raised eyebrow.
"I'm just tired…" was all I could answer while I was trying to hold back a yawn.
"You looked tired all of last week too. Aren't you getting any sleep?" And once again I am surprised that he is still there talking to me. Doesn't he notice that I am not in the mood to talk to anyone? But wait. What did he just say? I looked tired all week? So he was actually watching me all week.
"How do you know?" Finally I was actually looking at the guy and I have to say he doesn't look too bad. Tall, dark hair, a little tanned and definitely a good taste in clothing. I tried to remember if I have seen him in class, but I wasn't quite sure about that.
I don't know why, but he started smiling and shrugged his shoulders. "Noticed it in class…"
My mood lightened up a little bit and I managed to put a little grin on my face while I came back at him with a "Shouldn't you be paying attention to the lecture?"
He didn't even turn red while saying: "I guess you are just more interesting."
In that moment people came out of the classroom and signaled that we could go in now since their lecture was done. Without another word I just walked into the class and sat down in my usual spot. As soon as I set down I got my stuff out to prepare for class. It wasn't until then that I noticed that someone sat down next to me.
I caught the same guy looking at me, that I just had talked to. "Can't get enough of me today, ha?" I asked him with another grin on my face.
"I just really like Zombies." he said with a little wink, which just made me shake my head slightly.
I didn't say anything more, since the lecture started and I should be trying to concentrate on the stuff. Luckily the guy seemed to feel the same way, because he didn't say anything anymore either.
One hour later I was packing my things and didn't bother to look up when someone said "Bye" next to me. Maybe it was rude, but who cares.
I was just getting up to leave and there it was. A little piece of paper on the table. Out of instinct I grabbed it and stuffed it in my back pocket.
The day went by faster than I thought which was good and finally being in my bed felt really good. I was so tired, but still I couldn't go to sleep. Again! And you know how you remember stuff at the weirdest times? That's exactly what happened. I remembered the little piece of paper. Now that didn't help me go to sleep. Wondering what it was. So where did I put that now? Looking though my stuff I found it exactly where I put it. And then I unfolded it.
Wanna hang out some time? Or even watch a Zombie movie?
- Text me xxx-xxx-xxxx
Now I was confused. A glimpse at the clock said that it was already midnight. Should I text this person that late at night? Well, if I couldn't sleep I can wake other people up. So I decided to text this person.
Who are you? Why do I have your number? And why do you want to watch Zombie movies?
- the person who found your piece of paper
I hid sent before thinking about what I wrote. I started trying to go to sleep again when I got a text back. I was surprised since I thought that the person was probably asleep.
I hope you are the right person that found the paper with my number. If you are: You weren't really talkative today before class and in class, but I thought I could still try and ask you if you want to hang out sometime
- Tyler, btw
I don't know why, but we ended up texting almost all night. But at like 4:30 in the morning I fell asleep and slept really good until 10, since I didn't have to get up that morning.
When I woke up I was smiling and felt like a new person and I just couldn't believe that texting with a random person could make me so happy. But Tyler seems like a nice guy, and he is pretty funny.
A little later that day I looked at my phone to check the time, while I was waiting for the kids to get off the bus, and I saw that I got a text earlier.
Hey, wanna hang out before class tomorrow?
- Tyler
It made me smile immediately.
Sure, when and where?
- Zombie-Girl
I did tell him my name last night, but it was more fun to sign with Zombie Girl, since one of his texts last night was:
Do you have a name, Zombie-Girl?
The afternoon went by in a heartbeat and everyone in the house had noticed my mood change.
At this point it is probably time to explain a little bit about my life. I am an Au Pair in the US and I live with a family with 3 kids. I nanny for the kids and am part of their family. Also I have been here for about a year, which means that my Au Pair program is coming to an end pretty soon. Even though I extended it for 6 months.
I did spend another night texting with Tyler and another morning sleeping, although I had to get up a little earlier to meet with him. I was a little nervous since I am pretty good texting with other people, but when I come face to face with them it can get hard for me. I don't know what to say, and I come across as a shy person, which I am not, at least not once I know someone a little better.
We would meet at Starbucks and then go from there. Normally I am a person who is always on time, or even early, but since I had bad experience with people being late I forced myself to show up a few minutes late. Which would also test Tyler, if he would wait.
When I got there Tyler was already waiting in front and I smiled when I saw him.
"Hey." I said as I stood in front of him.
"Hey, who are you and what did you do with the Zombie." he was laughing once he finished his greeting and I was confused. "It was a compliment." he added. "You look good, not so tired and worn out anymore."
"Weird, I was up really late the last two nights. You look a little tired though." I answered grinning.
"Well you know, I stayed up very late too. Texting with this awesome girl." He sure wasn't shy at all. "You want to get some coffee?" He then asked and pointed to the door of the Coffee shop.
"Sounds like a good idea." I said and went to the door, opening it for him, which clearly surprised him a little bit.
We got our coffee and talked for an hour without any awkward pauses. And we still talked to our way to class, and in class and a little after class, but I had to cut that part short, since I had to go back to work.
"Do you want to do something Friday night?" I asked as we stood at my car.
"You mean like a date?" He asked wiggling his eyebrows.
"That is completely up to you. Pick me up at 7?" I was already sitting in my car now and ready to drive of. I just wanted to hear a yes out of his mouth.
"Ahhhm, … sure…" he said, not so sure. It was cute how he just got so speechless.
I closed the car door, blew him a kiss and drove off. I started laughing so hard and had to try hard to stop so I can concentrate on driving.
