I hear a branch snap behind me. I whirl around my gun out. It's just Kyle and Blue.

"I almost wasted you," I say putting the gun away."Why didn't you tell me you were coming?" I ask and another branch snaps behind us. It's Bec and Jake carrying an unconscious Kat between them. I run forward and see her throat's bleeding.

"We couldn't risk telling you that we were coming." Jake explains when Kyle and Blue take over with Kat. Bec looks sick and Jake's shaking. I get to work bandaging her neck. I'm hiding the emotions going through me, I'm getting too good at it. Kat regains consciousness and looks behind me, her eyes widening. I turn around as a vampire launches himself at me and knocks me down. Before the others do anything, the vampire is being flung across the clearing by a pale girl and a hot guy's helping me up.

"Are you alright?" He asks his brown eyes searching mine and he looks familiar but before I figure out who he is, the vampire attacks him. I pull my gun out and shoot the vampire in the head. The hot guy turns around and stares at me.

"My mom taught me how to shoot," I say before realising who he is. He was there when I burned my house, he told me run and the girl who had originally flung the other vampire across the clearing was there too. I point the gun at them. "They're vampires." I explain at the confusion on the others' faces.

"We're different, we don't drink human blood, we drink animal blood." The pale girl explains. I don't believe them. I mentally recite our mantra All vampires are evil. I read her eyes, they are asking me to trust her. I lower my gun.

"What are you doing?" Kyle demands his eyes flashing.

"If they wanted us dead, they wouldn't have saved me," I say and look at the vampires I spared. "What's your names?" I ask before checking on Kat. She isn't dying and the bleeding has stopped.

"I'm Dante Romano, this is my sister Maria. Thank you for not killing us." The hot guy, Dante says looking at me weirdly and I hear an italian accent.

"I'm Jade Wolfe, this is Kyle Collins, Kat Gray, Jake Young, Bec Winters and Blue James," I introduce, then I notice that they're both bleeding. "Want me to patch you up?" I offer hoping for a no.

"Would you just clean the wounds please?" Maria asks hesitantly and I nod. They sit down on the ground and I start by cleaning Maria's first. It looks like branches cut into her. I finish them move onto Dante's. I touch the cut and he grabs my wrist. Electricity shots up my nerves.

"Sorry." He says thickly which means he felt it too. He hasn't let go of my wrist yet. He starts and lets go. I finish cleaning it and stand up. Maria and Dante follow my lead.

"We need to move now. There's probably more coming." Bec says and we nod. Kat tries to stand but collapses into Dante.

"I'll carry her." Dante says before scooping Kat into his arms. We run, the vampires with me in the middle because of Kat who's holding my hand.

"It's okay Kat, we're almost at Base," I say squeezing her hand. I see Base as we run up a small hill. Kyle's first at the door but last in because he always makes sure that nobody's left behind. Dante's still holding Kat. "Set her on that bed. The one with the cat ears." I say and he nods. Bec's wheezing and is searching frantically for her inhaler.

"She must have dropped it back at the clearing." Jake looks worried and Maria sits in front of Bec.

"What does it look like?" Maria asks Bec. Bec points at her coat and Maria understands that she means dark blue. "I can go get it. Dante, tell them about the prophecy." She leaves Base, Base is a cabin that belongs to my family which we used for sleepovers. Ruby always came along.
