Pain

I shoot Uncle Mark in the head as Charlie bares her fangs and jumps at me. I shoot her and drop my gun. I sit down and pull Dante onto my lap. I lift up his shirt to see the bullet wound. Right in the stomach, didn't go all the way through.

"That bad, huh?" Dante asks before coughing up some blood and I put his shirt down. I help him stand and put his hand on the wound.

"Apply pressure, we're going in there since they seem to be alone." I put his arm around my shoulder and we stagger into the room. They weren't alone and I almost step back outside when we're spotted by a man, there isn't any other vampires. He runs forward and tries to take Dante from me but I step back. "Two of you were vampires who tried to kill us, why should I let you take him, Carter?"

"Because I can save him," He examines Dante with slitted eyes. "But you have to explain why you're hanging out with a vampire." He tries to take Dante again and I let him. I walk outside and get my gun. No matter if none of them seem to be vampires but trusting them seems idiotic. I walk back in and get tackled by someone. Isis Collins pulls away and I take in Kyle's mom. There's none of the laughter in her eyes that there used to be.

"Kyle, is he...?" She doesn't finish and I see tears hint in her eyes.

"He's alive but kidnapped by vampires." I don't look her in the eye and she looks less teary.

"Did Kyle tell you about his feelings?" I nod and she studies me carefully. "The boy you brought in, you two aren't just friends." She says it like a fact and I walk to where Carter and Dante went. I'm about to enter when I hear them arguing and I listen.

"Dante, you need to tell her the truth-"

"Sure, tell her that she is only going to kill Kazimir's clan and there is five other people to kill the other clans." I feel like something has been ripped out of me. He lied to me again and he knows Carter.

"I'm going to go get her so she knows you're to live as much as a vampire does." I fling the door open and Dante automatically shrinks away which makes him smart.

"You told me that it would kill all vampires," I walk towards him and he doesn't look at me. "I thought I was getting rid of all vampires and save my family but they won't be safe until five other people sacrifice themselves for strangers," I feel tears in my eyes as I make a hard decision. "Stay away from me or I'll shoot you like I should've the second I knew what you are." I turn and run out. I don't stop until I'm outside in time to see the sunrise. "Shit," I run down the street towards the school and it's ten minutes away. I hear someone yelling my name but don't focus on it. I have to save them especially Ruby and Kyle would blame himself. I feel someone pick me up and throw me over his shoulder. Dante isn't wearing blankets and is smoking from the early rays. We arrive and he sets me down. There's only silence until a gunshot goes off and I run towards the sound in time to see Ruby fall to her knees, her t-shirt red with blood. "RUBY!" I run towards her and kneel beside her. I lay her on the ground and take her hand. Her blonde hair is shoulder length and she's becoming pale.

"Jadey, you kept your promise," She sounds so weak and I start to cry. "Kazimir's wife, she's Gr..." She trails off and her eyes lose their light.

"Ruby, no, no." I can't stop crying and someone stands above me.

"Well, it's nice to put a face to the name and voice," Kazimir grabs my chin and jerks me up to my feet. "You do look like Alessandra's daughter, what was her name? Maria named after that Maria." He lets go of my chin and I notice red eyes paired with black hair. He's pale even for a vampire and very tall.

"Do not talk about her," Dante's hiding in the shadows of the school and looks pissed. "Not after what you did." Kazimir looks at him and is beside Dante, lifting him off the ground.

"You still need to learn how to hold your tongue," There's anger in his red eyes and he tightens his hold on Dante's throat. "Maybe I should just kill you, only one person would miss you." Dante's going red and I put my gun to my head.

"Kill him and I'll blow my brains out." I stop crying and stare down Kazimir.

"Why do you care...Wait," He looks between me and Dante who's looking at me with so much fear. "Dante, you kissed a human without losing control and Jade, you kissed a vampire even though we're "all evil"." I turn off the safety.

"You want to be human again or not?" I know he wants to be human for some reason but don't know  why. He drops Dante who breathes deep breaths and I run forward to be grabbed from behind.

"Bring her and the other girls to the room. Put the boys together after." I fight my restrainer and Dante tries to get up but Kazimir hits him into the wall. He looks at me.

"I am sorry that I lied and I can read sign language." He signs as I'm dragged away and Kazimir sees the signing.

"Wait, we should let them-" A bullet goes into his brain and he just looks annoyed. "Find whoever did that and kill them. They've ruined my favourite shirt." The black button down looks okay to me. Whatever he was going to let me and Dante do is forgotten.

"Please, let me talk to her," A new voice says and I feel a shiver down my back as I turn to look. "Hello Jaden."

"Granny, you let him kill Ruby," I notice the fangs and lift my gun up. "I don't know you anymore." I pull the trigger.
