A tall, slim, brown haired teen was walking across the beach to the docks. By his side was a short, stubby man.
"Why? Out of all the people on this island, why does father pick me?" He asked the man beside him.
"I don't know, my prince, but its just a quick trip and it will be over before you know it." The stubby man tried to reassure.
"It won't be "a quick trip", Berk is hours away... Besides, you can't call it a trip when I'm going to do something I know is wrong." The teen said, kicking sand and shoving his hands in his pockets.
"Listen, my prince, the only reason your father picked you for this job is because you are 18. You will be coming of age to rule the village soon. He wants to make sure you can do this one simple little job." The man explains, placing a hand on the teens shoulder. In a way, that stubby, little man had been more of a father to the teen than his actual father had been.
They reached the docks where a single ship had been prepared to sail away. The teen and the stubby man climbed aboard and headed to the captain's quarters just below deck. This moment had been one the teen had dreaded ever since he heard he would be doing this job.
The stubby man opened the door and the two walked in, finding a tall, handsome man sitting at a desk. The man glanced up from his papers and stood up, spreading his arms wide open.
"Ah, son, so glad to see you, and you too Langston. Now, I need to talk to my son in private, so can you please leave us for a bit." The man asked.
"Oh, yes, my lord." Langston said, bowing down before hobbling out the door.
"Please, have a seat Magnus. We have business to discuss." The man said, gesturing to a seat. Magnus sat in the chair and stared at his father.
"So, as you know, we will be sailing for Berk soon... Usually I wouldn't be coming along for such an event, but I need to make sure you get the job done right. Anyway, you and two other men will take a row boat to the island while we dock our ship out of sight. Once you three are on the island you do your job. Understand?" The man explained. Magnus fiddled around with his fingers before answering.
"Yes, sir... I do have a few question though." The man raised an eyebrow and looked at his son. "Why am I doing this? Why not someone else? And why even do this to start with?" Magnus asked, standing up. The man laughed before answering.
"You are doing this because you are my son, my first born, you should be honored to have such a task to fulfill... We are doing this because I need Berk. Anymore stupid questions, boy?" The man stood up too.
"No, father." Magnus answered. He walked out the door and up to the deck, where he watched as they slowly sailed away.

*Meanwhile On Berk*"Aaron, Abbey, Hayden, supper is done!" Astrid called up the stairs. Two boys came stumbling down the stairs pushing each other trying to get down first. The auburn hair boy tripped on the final step and face planted on the floor. The older blonde boy laughed and bolted into the kitchen.
"Better luck next time" Aaron yelled over his shoulder as Hayden started to pick himself up off the floor.
"Oh, you have the grace of your father. I don't know how many times I've picked him up off the floor." Astrid said, trying to help her son up.
"Come on Abbey! We are ready to eat!" She yelled once more to her only daughter. Astrid walked into the kitchen with Hayden and sat at the table waiting for Abbey. Usually Abbey was right behind her brothers for food. What was taking her so long? Astrid got up and walked to the foot of the stairs.
"Abbey Fearless Haddock! You need to come down now before I come up!" She warned. Once again she waited, but there was still no sign of Abbey. "Okay I'm coming up!" Astrid finalized. She ascended up the stair and down the hall to Abbey's room. When she opened the door, she saw something she never expected to see. Her young, brave, fearless daughter was curled up on her bed crying.
"Oh, Abbey, whats wrong?" Astrid soothed. She sat down beside Abbey and placed a hand on her back.
"I took a nap...*sob*... and had a horrible nightmare...*sob*... It just scared me so much mom." She explained, sitting up to look at her mother. Astrid wrapped her arms around her daughter and embraced her in a caring hug.
"Its okay sweetie, it was only a dream." Astrid soothed again. "Do you want to talk about it?"
"Not really. Lets just go eat."
So they both walked down the stairs together. As they reached the final step, the front door flung open and Hiccup walked in, heading for the kitchen. He sat down and Astrid sat on his right.
"How was your day?" Hiccup asked his family. Aaron told his father about how he and Metallica practiced some cool tricks above the ocean, Hayden told about how he built an awesome new invention in the forge, and Abbey stayed quiet. Hiccup knew something was wrong, but he didn't bother asking.
"Well, how was your day, Hiccup?" Astrid asked him.
"Ah, it was pretty uneventful. Toothless and I scouted the islands edge and then I helped the villagers with their daily chores." He answered. "But I'm finally glad to be back here with my loving family. So lets eat, I'm starving." He said. Astrid smiled at him and then everyone started eating, enjoying their meals.
