Prologue
"Mysti, I'm so glad you are alright," she felt someone hugging her. It sounded like her aunt. She smiled and winced a little, her face felt bruised.
"Aunt Trish, it's dark in here. I can't see you." Mysti blinked and rubbed her eyes. It was still dark, making her confused.
"Mysti, it's day right now," her aunt replied softly. "DOCTOR!" Trish hollered at the doorway. A flurry of activities around Mysti's bed appeared and disappeared just as fast as Trish could blink. The doctor informed her that Mysti might not be able to see again because of the blow to her head causing a blood clot. Trish held her niece’s hand in a bid to stop herself from trembling with fear. The clot was too near to the nerves and the risk of losing her niece was too much for her to bear.
Stunned, Mysti didn't know what to do, she murmured softly when her aunt held her hand again. She didn't remember anything at all, she couldn't remember what had happened to her that would cause her never to see the sunshine that she loved so much. “What happened? I’m scared,” Mysti’s lips trembled.
“Sweetie, you were in an accident. Everything is alright now.” Trish replied gently. She stroked her niece’s hair gently to soothe her. A soft sob escaped from her mouth, her heart wrenched at the thought of her young niece’s lost.
After while, Mysti grabbed her aunt’s still stroking hand, "Aunt Trish? Where’s Daddy and Mommy?" Mysti really wanted to know, she had been having nightmares about a car crash but she couldn't see anything. The nightmares were often blurry scenes with horrible tyres screeching. "Aunt Trish? Please answer me."
With silent tears, she answered her 6 year-old niece softly, "Mysti, they have gone to a far away place."
Biting her lips, "They... won't... come back?", it came as a whisper that Trish nearly missed it.
"I'm sorry, Mysti," Trish hugged her niece tightly careful to avoid her still healing wounds. She had to stay strong for her niece. “Stay strong, Trish. Mysti needs you now,” she told herself silently.
