The cops POV
The boy jumped twisting and squirming in the air. He gained his balance far to late.
'Crunch' A strong shiver began to creep up my spine but I pushed it away.
I stepped towards him subconsciously. Oh god is he dead?
The girl emerged from the water again realizing he wasn't joining her their. Her eyes widened and tinged with sickness I must have looked the same way. Her jaw dropped running out of the water. She was in love with him, it was all to obvious.
"Cane!" She screamed her voice cracking on the A. "I never told you." She cried her shoulders shook. "I love you." She picked him up rocking him slowly. Maybe we should leav- what am I thinking this boy needs help.
"He alright?" Jose said quietly. Stupid Australians.
"He will be right, dad?" My son whispered timidly. To timid to be my son. I groaned for the thousandth time.
"Really? That's what your asking!? Go check Jose!" I yelled to loudly. I winced oh poor girl must have scared her. She reminds me of my other daughter. Who died only months ago.
I miss Rebecca.
I awoke from my thoughts standing in front of the girl with both of the boys behind me. Come on! Really? Oh ya we'll just stand here. Idiots.
"He'll be okay." I whispered "Jose get the boy." I said motioning my hand behind me. "Cane is his name right?" I whispered at the girl. She nodded looking up at me. She could be my replacement Rebecca. I mean she lives here right with no family? I smiled showing off my crooked teeth. She wouldn't smile back.
American. Oh um. Uhhh. It was to late I had the girl in my arms adoringly. She was to perfect to hate. Jose followed me quickly keeping stride.
"Get in the car fast." I demanded. "We have to get to the hospital.'
Cane's POV
I woke up to the most blinding light. My arms and legs hurt. It was an unimaginable pain that burned like fire eating my skin and my bones. Someone screamed. I felt a million stars touch my arms and legs. They numbed abruptly. The same person sighed.
A door opened letting in a rush of cool air flow through the river I was trapped in. "What's wrong is he aright?" A voice said slurring his words slightly. They sounded distant and faint but also like it was next to me.
"He's been worse but I think he's awake now." Another star brushed my face it was calm an cool. I leaned into the alien hand. 'Wonder who this is' I smiled slightly or at least tried.
"Jerbad." I groaned my eyes hovering open seeing the light through my eyes not my eyelids. I winced blinking hardly.
"Jerbad? Umm Jerbad, Jerbad, uhhh Jeba!" the white man pondered. Ya Jeba it wasn't that hard.
"Wred id de?" I groaned seeing the people's faces atlast. One of them had muscly arms and a cops suit on and whiskers growing out of his chin. He had brown hair with the begining of highlights of grey. The other man wore a white cloak with pens sticking out of a pocket on the left shoulder. His hair gone.
"She's outside I'll get her." The white man left. The other man sat down in the corner chair.
"Your a long way from home." He said filling the room with his husky words. I didn't like him. The way he sat made me feel like standing on my legs- I stopped that thought very fast chocking all meaning out of its words.
"How'd you knrow?" I said still in a feeble sleeping position.
He chuckled. "Look at your teeth kid. American thru and thru." He smiled leaning back in his chair. His teeth were yellow and spaced. Not american.
"Cane!?" I heard my name echo off the walls making my already sour ears hurt. The pounding of feet didn't help either.
The voice drew nearer making it sound more familiar. Jeba? My heart sped up I wanted to see her. The thing to my left with all the tubes in it beeped fast keeping pace with my heart.
"JEBA!" I screamed back wanting to sit up very badly. The door busted open revealing a ratty haired Jeba.
"Oh cane" she said lightly. "Your awake." She stepped closer.
"Where am i?" I responded in a lopsided love daze.
"With me." She responded getting close enough for me to brush my nose with hers. Her breath washed over my face. My eyes traced her pink lips.
She titled her head to the side making her hair fall into her eyes that I had missed so much. She leaned in closer and I lifted my head to meet hers.
Our lips touched with a shock wave of light rushing through me. It made me weak but I didn't dare move. She grabbed my hair pulling me closer.
She pulled away. Shock sticking on her face. "Cane?" She said urgently. I closed my eyes and drifted away with my veins filling with led making them heavy along with my heart. I fell asleep. With the feel of her lips rejoining mine again. And for that moment. I felt safe. Like the war, the starvation, the forest, not even the stranger in the chair could disturb my peace. It was love and I was sure this time.
