I turned away from the unconscious girl lying on the floor and hopped down back into the cellar. I hurried from the stairs, curious to see how she'd reacted.

With youth, comes an uncertainty of what one finds fascinating as opposed to horrifying. As people grow, they follow trends and better understand who and what they are to be. No one pays much attention to what they really believe. No one thinks about those things. Eventually, people focus on convincing the next generation that things are horrifying rather than fascinating. Why? Perhaps this is the fruit of some human instinct which values one's life above their happiness. Come to think of it, it's foolish, really. What is the purpose of preserving one's life if it holds no value?
It's normal.
I froze. "What is she doing?" I wondered. Only some-five feet away from me, the girl stood over the table in the center of the room. She held in one hand a short blade, testing the tip with the forefinger of the other, her face overcome with childlike fascination.
