The Trials

Chapter 3
The next morning, I woke up at about 10:00 A.M. It was a bright, fall morning outside. The wind blowing, the trees rustling. The people didn't know that I could use my powers yet. I hope they don't find out for a while. When I woke up, Chase looked back. He was sitting on his bed, writing in something. I wondered what it was.
"G'mornin" Chase said happily.
"Morning. Why are you so happy." I said as I looked into those gorgeous brown eyes.
He's soooooo hot. I thought, We would be perfect together!
"Oh. I'm just writing a story, I thought you would want to read it, or maybe finish it someday."
Finish it? Why finish it. It's your story. I mean, I'm not going to write on something that's not mine.
"Why me?" I asked
"Because it's about you." He said happily.
About me! OMG! He likes me back! I can't believe this! We're going to grow old and have kids and die together! I thought sarcastically, as a small grin crept onto my face. My cheeks turned red. I didn't know what to do.
"A-About m-me?" I asked, stuttering mildly, face turning red.
"Yeah." He said in a gruff voice.
"H-How old are you?"
"Um... 18..."
"Same..."
"Okay then."
"Sooo. About the story. What have you written so far?"
He suddenly smiled again.
"It's about you, but it's a surprise. I can't tell you. I can't tell you Red."
"Did you just call me Red?"
"Yeah... I-I don't know you're name."
"It's Daisy."
"Oh. I'll call you Daisy then."
"No... Call me red. I-I like it."
"Okay Red."
My cheeks turned red. I couldn't stop smiling.
"Thanks... So what are we doing today?" I asked.
"We are finding your powers again."
"Okay."
"Here."
He gave me a small metal charm.
"What's this for?" I asked, confused.
"Think about your powers. Make them work."
I then thought about my fire. What had it felt like? What did I do to channel it? I got mad, but it only worked because I felt like I was protecting myself.
"Chase!"
"What?"
"Throw something at me. Like ball up a piece of paper and throw it at me."
"Why?"
"Just do it. Please!"
"Fine."
He picked up a piece of paper with his powers and threw it at me. I got scared and put my hand out. I felt a wave of power and saw the piece of paper on the floor, burning.
"OH MY GOSH! I DID IT!"
"Yeah! Nice job." He said, confirmingly. "How did you do it?"
"I-I don't know."
"Here. Try again. But this time, try not to panic."
"Okay. I'm ready."
"Ready...? GO!" He said as he threw many balls of paper at me. I hit almost every one with fire. The others, I blew back at him with my air.
"Nice!" He said encouragingly.
"Thanks. I can't believe that I've gotten the hang of it!"
Then we stopped for the day. The next thing that happened was.. The boss walked to my cell.
"I see you've awoken..."
"Why do you always say that you creep!?"
He ignored my question and went on with what he had to say. I doubt it's even a he. I thought.
"We will be practicing again today. Same kind of test. Just... a little "different," I suppose."
"What do you mean different?"
"Well... Just come with me! Guards! Unlock this cell... NOW!"
The guards unlocked my cell and I thought that Chase would make a run for it. I was wrong. I wondered why he just sat there. I'll ask him later. Right now, I had to go. When we got to the room, there were enchanted paper chainsaws hanging from the ceiling, and giant paper shooters after that. I knew how to do this.
"GO!" He said angrily.
After he said that, he turned around to talk to a guard. When he turned, I burned the chainsaws down. When he looked back, I was already out of sight in the obstacle course. After you passed the chainsaws, the people couldn't see you anymore. Giant metal balls came at me. They were coming fast, and they were almost to me. I shot air out of my hands both ways. The balls stopped and went back the other way.
Oh my god! I thought. I can't believe that worked! I could get the hang of this.
"This is amazing!" I yelled merrily.
"Yeah!" I heard Chase's voice behind me.
"Ahhh!" I screamed.
"What?" He asked, alarmed.
"W-Where did you come from?!"
"I've been here with you the whole time!" He yelled from behind me.
Just then, a giant tentacle came down and scooped me up.
"What the..."
I looked over and saw a giant Octopus. I had one free hand.
"Chase!!!!!"
"Red?! Red where are you?!"
"Help!! Please!!!"
Right then, I saw Chase. He was running up to me.
"Blow your air on the count of three!" He yelled loudly. "One... Two... THREE!!!"
We both blew our powers at the enormous thing.. Tentacle by tentacle, the giant octopus froze. When we were done, he threw a massive rock at it with his mind. It shattered into tiny bits.
"Thanks for helping..."
"No problem." He said as we walked out, unharmed.
"Why didn't you escape when you had the chance to" I asked.
"Well..."
He was interrupted by the "boss."
"Where have you been 050297CW?"
CW? I thought confuzed. Chase... W. Huh.
"I-I was helping her."
"IT doesn't need any help."
"She's not an "IT" like you, you creep!"
"Now Chase. You know you shouldn't call your father that!" The "Boss" said.
I froze. "Father?" What does he mean by "Father?"
"I WILL NEVER CALL YOU THAT! NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU "PUNISH" ME!"
We were back at the cell now, and I wanted to ask but I couldn't collect enough courage to do it.
"Hey Red?" He asked, startling me.
"Y-Yeah?" I asked, stuttering.
"I didn't try to escape because that "MAN"... Is my father." He said, embarrassed.
"What do mean escape?"
"Remember, we were running from the shattered octopus, and you asked me "Why didn't you escape when you had the chance to?"
"Oh... Oh yeah!"
"But one of these days, I will leave... and I'll take you with me!"
"M-Me?"
"Yes you! I-I... lov"
"You what?"
"Nevermind..."
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong!"
"What do you mean?!"
"You'll find out soon enough."
