BLOODY MARY...a drink or a story                                                                       31st October 2015, New Delhi

Authors Note: Since Halloween just went by and I have been too busy scaring the shit out of people I have had no time to wish my fans here

So this is me,...saying Sorry.. and wishing everyone a BELATED HAPPY HALLOWEEN....

And here is the story....

So as you know working in a hotel could be tough. When people enjoy we work. I happened to be at the bar today; regular Halloween decorations; Skeletons, Bats and other spooks. I was standing on the bar making Drinks for the hundred and one couples who had come to the party

Bloody Mary was the fast moving drink on the list today, it was continuously being ordered as its color went perfectly well with the Halloween theme. Suddenly, my manager came up to me and engaged me in conversations that lead me to discover a paranormal story.

"What are you doing Varun?"

"Just making bloody Mary for the guests, you want one?"

"Maybe after the bar shuts, but do you know how this drink came into existence and what is the story behind?"

"Not really"

He was relatively free and did not mind sharing a good story with me

"Long ago, somewhere in the western world lived a little girl called Mary worth. She was very lonely and had no friends, just her teddy bear whom she called Lancelot and an elder sister who would constantly demean her for being a rather quiet and dumb girl.

One fine day Mary worth met with an accident. Some say a black cat scratched her face, some say she fell down the stairs and some say loneliness drove her so mad that she scarred her own face with a knife.

Hereon, no one had the courage to lay eyes on her, not even her parents. She was advised not to look into the mirror lest she scared herself to death.

Many days passed, Mary stayed away from the mirror. Soon, inquisitiveness got the best of her and she did what she was forbidden to do, as foretold, she saw her scarred and damaged face and died of fright.

Since then people say you can summon her in a dark room by sitting in front of a mirror...

All you have to say is 'I believe in Mary worth' thrice, and she will come into the mirror

If you see the face of a little girl holding a candle and a teddy bear smiling at you means she's considered you a friend

But beware...

If you see a scarred beheaded head of a corpse or feel the blade of a sharp knife scraping down you back, they say you should run like anything or switch on a light if possible"

For a while, even in that heavily crowded bar I could feel my goose bumps making me shiver. Finally I mustered some courage and asked him

"Sir, do you believe in this story?"

"I did not till last year, but then again, after what happened with my sister I was forced too"

"What happened sir, if I may ask that is?"

"It was the day of Halloween last year. My sister was eighteen and she was staying over at a friends place for a pajama party. It was here that one of her friends had the idea of summoning the spirit of Mary worth

The girls dimmed the lights of the room and each one took their turns in front of the mirror chanting, "I believe in Mary worth"

"I see her, I see her" shouted one of the girls. She saw a little girl holding a candle hiding behind a door and smiling at her

The other girls did the same. All of them almost saw the same little girl, but, at different locations.

Finally,

It was my sister's turn; she was standing in front of the mirror. She could see herself as a dark shadow in the dark room.

"I believe in Mary worth... I believe in Mary worth... I believe in Mary worth..."

For a while nothing happened...

Suddenly, my sister's edifice flew in the air and rapidly hit the wall behind.

Her friends started screaming in unison in fear.

Hearing the screams, the parents came up to their daughter's room and switched on the lights. The girls were huddled in a corner in fright around my sister who had just been flung across the room like a rag doll. She was sitting in pain with her back to the wall. She had covered her face and was sobbing helplessly

The parent's comforted her and removed her palms from the face. What they saw horrified them. Long and deep fingernail marks were running from top to bottom of my sister's face.

She was rocking back and forth in fear shouting, "she is going to kill me, she is going to kill me"

Her physical trauma took months to heel. The cuts were deep and there were loads of stitches. The emotional trauma for her though never ceased; even till date, she sometimes gets up crying in the middle of the night remembering the horrific face she had seen in the mirror."

I knew the story had triggered an urge in me to experiment with the same

I reached home after work at around 2:00 am in the night

My parents were asleep

I slowly paced up to my room, switched off the lights, and closed the door

My life size mirror was fixed behind the door of my room; there was a thin streak of moonlight

Exactly behind me I could see the reflection of the door of my wash closet, I took a deep breath

"I believe in Mary worth... I believe in Mary worth... I believe in Mary worth..."

Silence, utter, cold silence...

Nothing happened for a while; I could feel the sweat on my forehead roll down my brows as I stared steadfastly into my mirror

Soon enough a cute girl peeked from the door of my washroom, she smiled through her eyes. In her left hand she was holding a candle and her right was hidden behind her back.

Seeing her smile I smiled back too

She slowly brought forth her other arm, that is when, fear gripped me

She had a knife in her hand

Her face changed, dripping blood and scars...

With a loud wail she rushed at me in the reflection, knife raised...

My adrenaline kicked in and I slapped the light switch with everything I had nearly shattering the circuit board to pieces.

Silence...everything was back to normal...

I could not sleep the whole night; I was tossing and turning throughout.

When I woke up in the morning I saw a huge gash about an inch deep on my back. My adrenaline had saved me or I would have been a complete goner.

Never have I ever used the word Bloody marry ever again except in the premises of the hotel bar

Btw, you all too have mirrors in your room right? Ever seen a little girl staring through....
