SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE PUNE, INDIA 2010
This is another Urban Legend from Pune I had heard it in one of our midnight hostel meets
Divya moved into her new house a week ago. She married a charted accountant a month ago and was very happy in life. Her new house was on the tenth floor of the Fortaleza apartment in Pune. She had moved in alone as her husband still had some unfinished business back in the capital.
The entire day she was busy with the workers unpacking all the stuff and getting them strewn around the house as per her aesthetic sense. The work continued throughout the day till finally the workers bid her farewell at eight in the night
Exhausted; Divya plumped on a bean bag in the drawing room. She admired her red bangles. Wedding was her childhood dream and finally she was married to a handsome young strapping gentleman. Since she did not have much to do in the new home she decided to give her mother a call.
She spoke for almost an hour before she hung up the phone. The kitchen utensils had not been unpacked yet so she decided on calling an outlet nearby. The yellow pages book was lying on the table. Divya opened the heavy book ad started searching for a number till she found what she was looking for
Ghar ka Khana was a small base kitchen close to the Frortaliza apartments. She picked up her phone and dialed the number
"Ghar ka khana, here"
Divya was astonished to hear a very polished female voice
"Yeah hi, I would like to order for a lentil curry and two breads"
"Sure mam we would be right over, anything else?"
"No, that's just fine"
Divya had nearly kept the receiver down when her doorbell rang
She thought it might have been one of the workers who must have forgotten a tool or something. She slowly walked up to the door and unlatched it.
There was no one outside the door just the dark hallway
"Kids, gawwd sick of their pranks"
Divya was about to close the door when her eyes fell on a small bundle lying near the foot mat. It appeared to be like food. She picked up the food and rummaged the contents. It was indeed lentil curry and breads packed neatly in an alluminium foil.
She was perplexed and amazed at the same time. She was so hungry that she did not bother calling the kitchen again. She quietly heated the food in the microwave, finished her dinner and went to sleep
The following day too was busy and Divya was busy working with the workers the entire day. She was happy her husband Adwit was set to fly in tonight in by the evening flight
She kept talking with him on the phone and setting up the kitchen. She wanted to cook herself from him in the night. Adwit liked chicken gravy and rice that was exactly what was on her mind. She had also got the raw materials from the market in the morning
The workers finished by seven that evening and the house was all set
After paying them and ending them off, Divya tied her hair into a bun and went to the kitchen to start cooking. It was nearly nine in the night and Adwit was set to be home in an hour
Just as she had set foot in the kitchen the doorbell rung
"Retards! If it is again those annoying kids I am going to thrash them"
