6 years later.
"Cas? You okay?" I knock on the door. We are nearing her due date and really, she could have the baby any day. We decided to surgically make her pregnant because Sam is pretty grown up, a sophomore now, and we've wanted a small child of our own... To call our own.
"Caaaaaas." I call again. This time I crack the door open and she's sitting on the side of the bed, one hand clutching her stomach. I rush over, not really knowing what's happening. Then I see the small damp spot on the carpet.
"Your water broke...." I stand, astonished, not really knowing what to do. Sweat is pouring down her face and her teeth are gritted.
"Sam!" I call. I see his head pop into the doorframe and he goes pale.
"De, we need to go... Like now." He runs out to the Impala and starts it.
Now I help Cas get up and guide her to the car. Her contractions have already started so we need to move fast.
Luckily it's not a long drive to the hospital and they are ready when we get there because I called. I sat in the back seat with Cas, holding her hand while Sam drove. He only has his permit but we are licensed drivers so it's okay.
I walk beside the gurney as they start to take her to the labor room. I clutch her hand in mine and she makes wheezing noises, her eyes glazed with pain.
"You can do it. I know you can." I smile encouragingly, though I'm pretty sure she can't hear me over her pain.
Sam is waiting in the waiting room while I go as far as they let me. They take her into a room and a nurse guides me away to where Sam is.
"Everything okay?" Sam gets up, walking over to me.
"For now I guess... Yes." I take his arm and I sit down.
"Dad tried to call... Again." Sam blinked and looked at me.
"Really? Doesn't he get that we don't want him around.... Actually, Sammy can we not talk about this right now?" I make eye contact with him.
"Sure." He grips my hand, squeezing it gently.
We wait for about three hours. A nurse in blue scrubs beckons me forward, smiling widely.
"How is she? They I mean." I sputter, walking fast.
"They both are fine. I'll let Cas tell you all the details." She replies, her brown curls falling on her shoulder.
I burst into the room and Cas shushes me. In her arms, wrapping in a pink little swaddle is a tiny infant.
"Cas..." I gasp, walking over. "S-she's beautiful." I smile, tears starting to well up in my eyes.
"We need to decide on a name..." She replies. I take the small child from Cas. I sit on a blue chair and hold the little baby. She blinks up at my with bright blue eyes, just like her mom.
"How about Mary...?" I suggest. That's my mothers name. Was- my mothers name. She was killed before Sam really had the chance to know her. I remember the little tune she'd sing to me and I start humming it to the little baby.
"I like it." Cas whispers. She starts to doze off and soon I hear rhythmic breaths. Sam has taken a seat beside me, holding Mary in both of his arms.
"You're a natural." I smile, putting my finger near little Mary's tiny hands. She squeezes it gently and makes a gurgley noise.
"She's perfect..." Sam says, cradling her and humming tunes.
