Jake, Max, and I were sitting in the school courtyard just hanging out after school like we always did.
"So," I say to Max, "Who're you gonna take to homecoming?"
"Yeah," Jake says, "Who're you gonna take? It's in just a few days, you know that, right?"
Max folds his arms and sighs, "Eh. You guys know I don't like dances. So why do you guys even bother asking me to go and who I'm supposedly taking?"
I shove him, "Cause it's homecoming and this is our final year of high school! We might as well party it up!"
"Look, if I go will you two stop annoying me?"
Now Jake shoves him and says,"Yeah, only if you bring a girl while you're at it."
Knowing Maxi, he shouldn't have that much trouble trying to get a girl to go with him, even at last minute. I mean, he did get some random girl's number a month ago on the first day of school.
"Ugh," Max grunts, "Fine, I'll go WITH a girl."
He just loves acting like people are trying to control his life.
"Oh God," I saying mockingly, "God forbid someone makes you go to a dance WITH a girl."
A girl with blonde hair walks right by us and Maxi here looks at us and says, "I'll be right back."
Jake facepalms himself and says, "This should be good, that girl Tracy over there is a stuck up bitch and turns down every guy that walks up to her, even if the guy isn't hitting on her."
Max puts his arm around her and asks, "Can I talk to you? I just need to ask you something really quickly."
"Um," she says, "Sure?"
And with that the two walk off, leaving us behind.
"So," Jake says killing the silence, "Who're you gonna take, you never told me."
I look out to the opposite side of the courtyard and see that Chelsea and her friend Kayla are walking towards us, her hair fluttering in the gentle breeze, a knock-em-dead smile with her pearly white teeth, and a sparkle in her deep blue eyes. And then Kayla walking beside her.
"I wish..." I mumble partially to myself.
"What?"
"Uh-" I stutter, "I... I wish I could take out... erm... Kayla."
"Then what's stopping you? You two would look good together."
"Really?" I ask, "I dunno, I don't really do tall redheads."
"So what dude? I thought you liked leggy girls, go for it."
I wanted to tell him that his girl is leggy too, but I figured keeping my trap shut about me checking out his girl would be a better idea.
The girls finally get to us and Chelsea and Jake hug and kiss so I just looked in the other direction because I didn't exactly want to see that. When the two are done, Jake nods his head to me signaling me to go for in for the kill and with that, the two go away and leave me and Kayla alone with each other.
"Good luck!" Jake yells at me.
"Huh," I huff, "Way to make it obvious..."
"Way to make what obvious?" Kayla asks.
I forgot I had said that out loud. "Erm, yeah. Would you wanna go to homecoming with me?"
A smile crosses her lips and she says, "Yeah, sure. It'll be fun."
Even though I never really wanted to ask her out, I couldn't help but smile too.
"Really?" I say in half shock, "Awesome, I'll pick you up at six then."
Homecoming usually starts around eight, but I figured that I should get to know her or something a little bit before hand.
A wider smile crosses her lips. Even though this is about my third or fourth time meeting her, I haven't really noticed how pretty she looks when she's smiling.
"Sounds good to me," she says as her face turns a little rosey.
I needed that ego boost.
There's a honk coming from the school parking lot, I assumed it was her mom or something.
"Oh, that's my mom," she says as she walks away waving to me, "I'll see you in a few days!"
"Definately," I say giving a small wave back.
I was about to leave for my car when I saw Max running over to me.
"So," he said, "I got my date!"
My mouth drops a little. "You honestly got a date with Tracy? She turns down everyone that comes into contact with. How'd you do it?"
A cocky smirk crosses his face, "I have my ways. What's going on with you, you never said who you're gonna go with."
"Heh. Apparently I'm going with Kayla."
"You serious? That's awesome! Maybe we'll make it a double date before hand."
My eyes go wide when I realize something.
Max looks at me half concerned, "What's up?"
I facepalm myself and laugh a little bit, "I completely forgot to get her number and address..."
