The homecoming dance. The celebration that celebrates the start of our school's football season. To be honest, I never really did like football. I always thought of the school football games as excuses to go and talk with friends for the phenominal fee of ten whole dollars! Sounds like a pretty good deal for something that you can do for free at a friend's house. Yeah, not really. Anyway, the dance is really another excuse for us teenagers to get out of the house until midnight, maybe even later if you plan on going to an after-party, and dance the night away to a fine mix of dance music and R&B music. I think everyone sees it the way I do anyway.

I was there in a white dress shirt, leaving only maybe two or three buttons at the top left undone, black dress pants, and a navy blue tie. Maxi was wearing just about the same as me in the same fashion except his tie was left loose and was jet black and Jake was wearing the same as the two of us except all of his buttons were done, and his tie was tightly tied and was a lighter blue than mine.

Maxi walks up to me and asks, "Hey, where's your girl Kayla?"

"Wha- oh yeah, she said she'll be right back, I think," I answer.

"Sounds like someone lost something," Jake said jokingly.

I blush, "I didn't lose her! ....I just don't know where she is, is all..."

Max smacked the back of my head, "Go find her!"

"I will, I will. Why don't you guys go find your dates while I'm gone?"

Max snickered, "We already know where our dates are, you're the only one doesn't. Our's are over by the tables taking their heels off."

I looked to where he was pointing and notice that he was right, they were taking their heels off by the tables. Chelsea was wearing a glittery black strapless dress that reached to the floor. Tracy was wearing a silvery cocktail dress which only reached right about her knees, but then all cocktail dresses are like that. I couldn't help but wonder how the security outside didn't catch her for violating dress code. I guess they just didn't care much anymore.

I go walk across the dance floor, watching everyone grinding on each other, you know, that dry hump stuff. I called out Kayla's name a few times until I finally caught her talking with a rather large guy.

She was wearing a shiney blue tight dress with string-thin straps. She actually looked pretty good in that dress that night.

"Hey," I said, "What's going on? You alright?"

"Yeah," she says as she turns towards me, "I was just about to come and see you again," she gives me a kiss on the cheek and takes my hand and leads me to the dance floor. "Let's go."

I could feel that guy giving me an angry death stare as we walked off into the crowd.

Blushing once again, I couldn't help but wonder who that guy was. "Who was he?"

We started dancing when we got a little bit further into the crowd. "No one. Don't worry about it."

"Well that look he gave me when I finally found you didn't look so nice, to be honest."

"Everything is fine, he's gone now and it's just the two of us."

To me, his presence could still be felt somewhere in this gymnasium.

I move a little bit closer to her. "At least tell me who he is."

"Well..." she hesitates. "He and I kinda dated." and says quickly, "But don't worry! He and I are done now."

Seeing as how she was my date, I hoped she was done with him.

"It's alright," I told her, "I know you are."

"Good," she sighed. "I was scared you'd get the wrong idea if you saw us together."

"It's alright. I know you two aren't together cause you're with me right now."

I hoped to the God that I didn't believe in that I was right and that she wasn't just playing with the two of us like common kid toys.

The DJ announced that the dance was coming to a close and puts on a slow song to end the night. Putting my hands onto her waist we started dancing slowly while everyone around us started grinding slowly. It would've been a nice time if there wasn't a used condom right next to us which made me wonder how many people were actually dry humping.

She slipped a piece of paper into my collar and says, "You never got my number."

For the third time that night I blushed.

The music dies down and the lights start to illuminate the once dimly lit dance floor. Everyone stopped grinding and started to disperse through the exits.

Holding hands, we walked over to our friends who seemed to have danced until they couldn't dance anymore. Surprisingly, Max was still with Tracy. Jake looked exhausted from the night while Chelsea still looked raring to go.

Max put his arm around Tracy and says, "Let's go, for once, I kinda wanna get some sleep."

"Yeah," Chelsea says, "Let's go, Jake."

"Alright," Jake said. " We'll be seeing you all later."

And with that, they leave.

"Well," I said yawning. "We should be going too, huh?"

"Yeah," I heard from behind me in the empty gym. "You should get going."

I turned around to see that large guy that Kayla had been talking to walking right up toward me looking pretty irritated and angry.

"You've gotta be kidding me...." I grunt. "Just leave us alone dammit!"

"I will once you get away from my girl!" and he shoved me into a wall.

"Listen asshole, we're leaving now!" and I shove him back. A big mistake.

"Fuck off!"

And he slugs me across the face and my head slams hard against the wall. The last thing I can remember hearing was Kayla shouting my name as I quickly blacked out.
