I sighed into the mirror as I finished my makeup, today was Monday and I wasn't excited to be going to school. The weekend seemed too short. Luckily, it was almost spring break and I could relax.

I ran a hand through my hair to calm down the frizz and make me look somewhat presentable before grabbing my backpack off the floor next to my bed.

I rushed downstairs, getting to the kitchen to make a quick breakfast so I wouldn't be late to school. I was surprised to see my mom making toast, she's usually never around because she works so much.

My mom is a politician and she's currently running for state senator, although I'm not the biggest fan of politics I'm still proud of her. It's just a shame we never talk because of her busy schedule.

"Did you sleep well?" She asked me right as the toast popped out of the toaster.

"Not really, I stayed up late studying for my calculus quiz today," I took one of the slices of toast after she buttered it and took a bite.

She nodded and opened her mouth to say something but she was cut off by the shrill ring of her cellphone.

It's not like we ever have long conversations, anyway.

I decided I wasn't hungry and put the toast back down, grabbing my keys off the counter and walking out the front door to my Jeep.

I already knew today was going to be a long day.

The halls today seemed more chaotic than usual. I tried my best to squeeze my way past the clusters of students and make it to my locker without being crushed.

"He tried to kill another student and they're letting him back a month later?" I overheard a group of jocks talking. I didn't mean to eavesdrop but it was hard not to.

"Yeah, like, what if he tries to do it to another kid?" I think it was the quarterback, Donovan. I didn't know gossip started this early in the morning.

They were talking about the notorious Calum Hood. I had seen him in the hall a few times before and he was in my history class, but I never pegged him as the violent type. He was the schools cliche "bad boy", if that's what you want to call it. He had a reputation for sleeping with girls and radiated confidence. His most current fling was Ciara. She was the cheer captain. I had never liked her.

By the time I had gotten to my locker, I had basically all of the story. Eavesdropping seemed to be a hobby of mine.

According to the rumors, Calum had gotten into a serious fight a few weeks ago with another student, I think his name was Luke. Ciara was with him when it happened and was the root of the gossip. And now, a month later, he was finally returning to school after being suspended.

I don't see why people were so shocked that he was coming back. It wasn't like he actually killed the kid, and he had been gone longer than everyone initially thought.

I shook the thoughts from my head and grabbed my books from out of my locker, walking to my first class. I didn't need to be getting into other peoples business.

~

My first two classes were absolute hell. When am I going to ever need to use Calculus or French in my life? Never.
