Chapter 10-Unexpected

~Charlotte~

And then my mother died... That day in the music room while Kyle and I were kissing my phone rang, it was my dad with the news. My mum had been in a car crash she was in a critical condition and he didn't want me to drive but he couldn't leave the hospital. I hung up the phone and a single tear fell from my face, Kyle didn't question it he just held me tight while I cried into his shoulder. "My mum-" I sobbed "babe what happened?" he asks and all I can get out are the words 'car', 'crash' and 'hospital'. Kyle offered to drive me so we went to the parking lot. On the drive to the hospital I couldn't stop crying and when we got there Kyle ran to the counter, found out what room she was in and took me straight to her. I wasn't allowed in, neither was dad. He saw me first, he called out to me and I ran straight into his arms. We stayed like this for a few minutes while Kyle spoke to the doctors. We only separated when we heard that horrible, terrifying beeping. The beeping signaled that my mum's heart stopped beating. She died peacefully and suddenly. We ran in and I collapsed onto her, I couldn't stop crying. She's really gone... I couldn't think. All I could think to do was call Emily. She'll know what to do.

I started to play 'Miss You' by Blink 182 after having a little jam with Charlotte singing 'Everything has changed' when Charlotte leans up to kiss me, god I love her so much... Our kissing is cut off abruptly when her phone rings, she checks it and whispers "It's my dad, sorry", "It's fine answer," I reply. She answers the phone and her eyes widen and fill with this paralyzing sadness. I hear her whisper "okay", and hang up. She turns to me and I just wrap her in my arms, "It's okay baby, it's fine", I whisper and she looks up at me shaking her head and struggles out, "My mum-" but she's cut off by her sobbing. Oh God. "babe what happened?" I softly ask. I couldn't make out much but I hear 'crash' and 'hospital' "come on baby get up I'll drive you there okay?" I almost tell her and she nods as she stands. As we made our way to the hospital she was sobbing relentlessly. I try to sooth her by turning on the radio but none of the stations are playing anything appropriate so we drive in silence. We get there and I quickly find out what room her mother is in. Charlotte and I hurriedly make our way to the room and she runs to her dad. I ask the doctors why he isn't in his wife's room and they tell me no-one but doctors are allowed to see her. "That's bullshit!" I scream and the nurse tells me to calm down and they'll be allowed to see her soon but she is cut off by the beeping of a heart monitor. I see Charlotte storm in and I realize the significance of the monitor. It's her mother's. I walk in and see Charlotte collapsed on her mother's hospital bed with her father's arms around her, I decide to give them some space and decide to call Emily so she can be here when they get out. It's obvious Emily is crying but I heard Riley's voice so she'll get here okay. As I turn to go back in Charlotte has stood up and is starting to walk outside, I grab her and pull her close and she whispers through sobs "I- need- Emily- need- to- call- her", I kiss her forehead and explain, "Babe I already have." She nods and buries her head in my chest. I run my hands through her hair whispering, It's okay baby it's okay...
