Venice tried to hide his excitement.
Here he was with his brothers, some of the world's greatest heroes, on their way home together.Though as they walked, he felt a tension between them all, a tension he wanted gone. But he hardly knew his brothers, he'd never met them until now. Still...
"What's the matter?" He asked softly.
"Who are you talking to?" Silver asked.
"All three of you. You're all as tense as stretched rubber bands."
"We just found out that we're brothers, on our way back to a home we don't remember, while being chased by soldiers with power neutralizing guns." Sonic replied. "That's what. Why?"
"I thought maybe you guys would be happy to find out that you're brothers, with you three being so close and all."
"We're not close!" Shadow replied. "It's bad enough that I have to work alongside a freeloader and an overachiever, but to be related-!"
"Hey! I resent that!" Sonic and Silver both complained.
"How am I a freeloader!?" Sonic asked."Hmph. Try that you fight off Eggman, but you always leave the mess for me to clean up!?"
"Well you do make a good cleaner dude."
Venice winced, what have I just done...!?
"If you guys had seen the crap our future was, you'd understand why I'm constantly back here trying to fix it." Silver explained, but nobody seemed to hear him as Shadow and Sonic got into a wrestling match.
"Boys! We don't have time for this!" Rouge barked, but her words went unheard.
Venice tugged his quills, this was his fault, and he needed to fix it. He put his hands to his head. 'STOP IT!' He shouted telepathically.
He watched Sonic and Shadow both stop to hold their heads. "Fine! I get it! You're not as close as I thought you were!"
He sat down on a log. "But now I'm confused. If you're so grouchy to one another, then how do you fight together so well?""Well... we put all that aside if we have to fight. The threat is more important." Sonic replied.
"Then do that. Put aside your differences and focus on working together to get home!"
The others looked at each other, as if they weren't sure if they could.
"Look," Venice continued, "I don't know where Mom put you, but I was raised as a civilian. I was put on a couple's doorstep.
My adopted father was a mechanic. You three fought monsters and robots, I fought oil spills on the garage floor. You know how to repair time and space, I know how to fix a transmission.
In the past six months I have attended both of my parents' funerals, but I kept my head on. Because I knew that eventually I would be back with my real parents and I would meet the brothers I'd heard so much about... I was excited, but now..."Sonic sighed. "Sorry to disappoint, kiddo...but no family is perfect."
"I know that. But for a trio of heroes, you guys do a lot of fighting against yourselves." Venice stood up. "I'm not a fighter like you guys, but I am getting to Sinseria, with or without you."
His brothers looked at him, then Silver stepped forward. "We're with you all the way..."
"Thanks. Now let's get moving before something catches up to us."
As soon as he finished, there was a rustling, and they all got into fighting stances, until they saw the pair that stepped out.
"There you are!"
"Amy, Tails!" Sonic accepted his friends' hugs. "You guys were following us?"
Amy grinned, "I'd never leave you alone, Sonic the Hedgehog... also, we saw your house and wanted to make sure you were okay."
"Right...the house."
"So what's going on here?" Tails asked.
Venice sighed. The larger the group, the louder... "We'll explain on the way... It started a long time ago..."
