Lost In The Stars

It didn't start like this. It started back in high school a good 5 years ago. We were "a thing" and everyone knew it. It was nice. It was ours.

My name is Dominic Wood. I am a 23 year old who is working at one of the biggest names in social media. Instagram. Or at least I thought I was until my boss, Alex Long, decided to fire me after 5 years of working for him. But I guess it's all worth it because I found a new job that I love. I am a journalist at the local news station. It's actually pretty fun!

The job doesn't pay much but just enough to support my mom and me. She is truly my best friend. I know that everyone says that about their mom but this one is true. Ever since my dad left her when he found out she was pregnant she would work so hard just to give me what I needed. Her parents died before I was born and her brother, my uncle, had a family of his own to support so he couldn't help. But we would still visit him all the time and, since he was rich, he would give us just enough to last us a month.

Just before I started high school I fell in love! She was perfect!!! She had long blonde hair, the most beautiful blue eyes, and a smile that could light up a room before she even walked in! I honestly couldn't control myself around her and it was very embarrassing. Luckily she thought it was funny along with anyone else who had eyes. She even had a perfect name. Lily Green!

We met in the summer transition between 8th grade and high school. She was walking her dog while I was jogging and her dog got loose and came straight to me. I don't know why he did that but I'm glad he did. I didn't know what would happen after that but I knew that I had to do something to see her again.

"Sorry about that. I don't know what got into him." She said in a soft, calm voice.

"It's okay. I'm Dominic. Have I seen you before beacause you look very familiar." I said hoping she wouldn't think I was a creeper or something.

"I think so. Where do you go to school at?" She asked.

"Hamilton." I said. It's a pretty big school with an average of 300 kids per class. Mine had a total of 350 kids.

"That's probably where we've seen each other. Were you in Mrs. Kyle's 3rd period math?" She asked

"That's where!" I said smiling. She smiled back.

"So what's your dog's name?" I asked.

"Patch. He was a rescue that my mom had found." She said.

I would keep telling you more about our first conversation but it's not important. I didn't see her again after that until school had started again. We had math, science, history, and English together. It was kind of nice seeing her everyday.

After about 5 months since we had last spoken I finally got up my courage to go talk to her again.

"Hey. Do you remember me?" I asked shyly.

"Hi Dominic." She said smiling.

"I have a question for you." I said finally hoping this was my moment to ask her out.

"What is it?" She asked.

"I'll ask you later." I said knowing I wouldn't be able to do it.

And that's how it all started!!
