I watched as Gill paced furiously. He hasn’t spoken to me or looked at me since I brought him home.

“Listen Gill, I’ll get you out of here.  I know your upset about the deal I made but just relax-”

 He stopped abruptly.

“Relax?” he said. “How can I relax when you haven’t made a move to get me out of here?”

Right now I don’t even want to help him. He’s rude and arrogant. My village is overrun by rude alpha male men but he is on another level.

“What’s your name?” he asked.

“It’s Ava.”

He turned toward me and he looked… angry. Very angry. He took a step towards me and I took one back, bumping into the wall behind me.

He slammed both his hands on the wall behind me, caging me in.

“Listen Ava, where I come from I was taught to be a gentlemen so I won’t use harsh words with you but I can’t stay here any longer, we’ve been here for hours. I have a girlfriend to get back to and I have to finish college, I have shit to do!” he yelled.

I was startled, but more so I was angry. Here I was trying to help this ape and he’s yelling at me.

“First of all what is a girlfriend and second I am trying to help you. Did you not see me put myself in front of the elders? I don’t even know you for bloody sakes!”

He ran his hands through his hair and sighed. “Just get me out of here Ava.”

“Fine.”

Without warning I pushed him away from me and walked past him going to the door. If my boomerang was in reaching distance I would’ve gave him a clog.

Once I peeked outside I noticed that everyone was safely locked away in their huts. The storm had come and it came with a vengeance. I suddenly wanted my dad with me but I knew he was probably locked away in one of his friend’s huts. I thanked the gods he was safe.

The snow that falls here was harsh and few people have died due to severe storms, kind of like this one. The wind was whipping back and forth and all you could see was white. It’s going to be hard to maneuver. But what I can tell from Gill is that he doesn’t and wouldn’t care if was raining fire let alone snowing. He wants to get out of here, bad.

I was scared, I didn’t want to go trekking through the mountain while this storm was still going on but I told Gill I was going to get him out of here.

“Would you wait till tomorrow?” I asked him stiffly.

“No.” he stated. Just as I thought.

Great! Death by snow then.

“Alright, there’s snow storm so you should probably bundle up.” I told him flatly.

“I am bundled.” He pointed to his jacket that said the north face, which to me looked as light as a feather.

“You’re going to freeze to death if you don’t wear something thicker. Hold on a minute.” I went to my dad’s room and got him one of his thickest jackets.

“Here put this on.” I threw it at him and he caught it with one hand. He put it on with urgency and said, “Let’s go.”

I grabbed my jacket and opened the door to hell, but before I stepped out I looked back at Gill and said, “We should probably hold hands, I don’t want us to get separated.”

I held out my hand.

“Sure.” He entwined his large hands with mine.

I almost blew away if it wasn’t for Gill. As we trekked through the snow, we passed the village river which was now covered in snow. If I ever made it back it was going to be hell trying to unfreeze that.
