Sawyer gasped at the invitation, him stay there longer, and teach others having difficulties, while he learns himself! It was an honor for any to get a chance like this,
"But I can't everybody is going to be expecting me to come back next Friday, how would I tell them I would be gone for almost two years!" he thought after the council had told him what they were willing to do.
"You see here there need to be more like you, with an actual brain that they use, yet aren't arrogant." The man said to Sawyer.
"I'll give you time to think about it." He said with a rough smile, patting his shoulder he left to retire in his quarters on the boat.
Sawyer wasn't sure what to think when he reached his quarters, he collapsed on the bed giving a loud sigh, rolling over he picked up two photo's, one was of him and his mom, and the other he had taken of Hazel at an embarrassing moment, as his vengeance when she had done the same to him, it was a photo of her when she had found a dead rat in her room, he laughed so hard he got the hiccups after the photo had been taken.
Sawyer smiled, he smiled at Hazel, his mom, and the old days of before. He admitted he missed them he missed the biking with Hazel, the long conversations with his mom, but most of all he missed Winter. He missed the night long swims, the shows, and her unforgettable tweeting voice.
He sighed, he knew his mother would miss him terribly if he stayed another year. Slowly he drifted off to sleep deep in his thoughts.
The next morning he slept in late, jumping up he got dressed, then almost flying he came down the staircase leading to the breakfast room.
Finally after breakfast he headed toward the board's office,
"They need an answer and I will give it to them." He thought confidently as he knocked on the door.
"Come in" Came a voice within.
Sawyer opened the door, "Sir I have made my decision."
Hazel's excitement grew,
"Today I shall see Sawyer!" she thought as she started trembling, at any moment she would spot her best friend, and perhaps (she would shudder at the thought) might be more.
But time continued and no Sawyer came, finally the last passenger came out, and he walked straight towards them.
"Are you Mrs. Nelson?" He asked,
"Yes." She answered fearing the worst.
"Your son has been invited to stay another year and will return next." He said not realizing he wasn't speaking correct English.
Mrs. Nelson nodded her head trying not to burst into tears.
When the man left, she couldn't hold it back any more, she loved her son and missed him terribly, how could she endure another year, and how could he make that decision without her knowing! And tell no one till the day he was expected.
Hazel stood still as the crowd slowly walked back to their cars. She couldn't believe it how could he do such a thing! When the last time he had ever saw her was on a rooftop!
Hazel ran, she ran to the brook which she had found, the brook where she liked to walk and think. Sitting down on the rock she tried to find one positive reason why it was better that he was still gone. But she could find none.
"That is it Hazel, grow up, you need to be less naïve and realize you can't trust others entirely. It is time for you to be responsible, you are almost seventeen." She said to herself, "You are dreaming a day dream, and just a daydream." She added as she thought of them being more.
Slowly getting up she walked towards the aquarium.
