My eyes peeled open. Tyler and Josh were peering down at me with panicked looks. I was lying on the floor.

"Did I just...?" I began, "How long was I out?"

"Just a few minutes," Josh said.

"We're on the way to the closest hospital," Tyler added.

"What? I don't need to go to the hospital, I'm fine," I said, sitting up.

"Jess, you just passed out! You're not fine!" Tyler shouted.

"It was only a few minutes. I swear I'm fine, I definitely don't need to go to a hospital!" I spat.

"Are you insane?" Tyler yelled.

"She was only out for like a minute, people pass out all the time," Josh said.

"I said I'm fine," I agreed.

"This is ridiculous. Jessica you just collapsed in my arms! We're going to the hospital," Tyler ordered.

Hospitals freaked me out. The last time I was in one was when my grandma was dying, and I had a panic attack. It took me two hours to feel normal again. The thought of being in a huge building filled with needles, blood, and infected people made me uneasy.

"Tyler, I can't go to a hospital," I said. "You know how I get around that stuff?"

I looked to Josh for support.

"I'm telling you I'm fine. I probably just stood up too fast," I pleaded.

"Fine, but when we get home, you're going to the doctor," Tyler caved. "And... if you pass out again or get worse, we're going."

"Thank you," I said, relieved.

Tyler helped me to my feet, holding my waist tightly as if he was anticipating me to fall again.

"I'm fine," I laughed, his hands tickling my sides.

He shook his head, "I'm just worried, because I love you."

"I know," I replied. "I really wanna kiss you right now, but I'd probably give you the flu or whatever it is I have."

"Yeah, that wouldn't be a good idea," he said.

"We're less than an hour from home," Josh said.

"You're going to the doctor," Tyler added.

"Yes, Mom," I joked.

The bus went down Greenwood Road into our development. We parked between Tyler's and my house. Still weak, Josh and Tyler helped with my luggage.

My mom was waiting for us outside.

"Come give me a hug!" she squealed.

I did as I was told.

"You don't look good," she said.

"Yeah I think I've got the flu or something," I said.

"Well I made soup for tonight!" my mom said.

We dragged the rest of my stuff upstairs.

"You guys should go," I said. "I'm tired and I don't want to get you sick."

"Are you sure?" Josh asked.

"Positive."

"Jess," Tyler was about to argue.

"Shh... go to Josh's house. I'll be fine. I have my mom. I'll see you in the morning."

"Alright."

With that, they left for Josh's house, just across the street.

My mom came immediately into my room.

"So......" she said with a smirk on her face, "You and Tyler? Are you still just friends?"

"No," I smiled.

"What happened to Dean?" she questioned. She was acting like she was my best friend and wanted to hear all of the news.

"Mom, I'm tired. Can we talk about it later?" I asked.

"Fine... but tonight at dinner. Just you and I."

"Okay," I agreed as she left my room.

I immediately opened my laptop and googled "passing out" and "feeling weak."  A bunch of results popped up with hundreds of different illnesses. Something wasn't right. I could feel it. This was more than just the flu. After searching for a few minutes, nothing that came up described how I felt... like I was dying.

My head still pounding after my two hour nap, I dragged myself downstairs for dinner.

The questions came immediately after I sat down. I ate a few spoonfuls of soup, only making me feel more nauseous. My vision blurred again. The black began filling in along the edges.

"Mom, I'm really lightheaded," I said grabbing onto the edges of the table.

The darkness enveloped me.

I awoke to the sound of beeping, and the smell of fresh latex. I opened my eyes. I was in a hospital.

I focused my eyes. A nurse was facing away from me writing something on a clipboard. She turned around, and saw that I was awake.

"She's awake!" she exclaimed excitedly, running over to the side of the bed.

"How are you feeling?" she asked.

"Fine I guess... What happened?"

"You've been in a coma for nearly a month!" she said in her peppy nurse voice.

"What?" I asked, my mind reeling.
